Sirenus is a planet that the Fleet encounters in its search for solenium crystals for Galactica.
A mining party of twenty-two men, twenty of them miners in addition to Captain Starbuck and Apollo, encounters a female-dominated civilization there. Ruled by a woman named Areola, the men are used as thoughtless drones to perform menial and dangerous tasks. The formerly peaceful and cooperative civilization is thrown into chaos by Galactica's miners, who "enrage the females with their disrespectful and independent behavior," and inciting the oppressed Sirenus' males to riot and demand equal rights.
In response, Areola ejects the mining party from the planet and withholds the crystals Galactica desperately needs (A Queen's Ransom).
