Deckhands are multi-faceted crewmembers on battlestars that prepare and maintain Colonial fighters and reconnaissance vehicles for flight and turnaround.

Led by Galactica's senior non-commissioned officer, Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol, deckhands (also nicknamed, sometimes derisively, as "knuckledraggers") are tasked with keeping the limited number of Vipers and Raptors ready at all times for Combat Air Patrols, Raptor intra-Fleet shuttle flights, and large-scale engagements with Cylon forces.

Deckhand jumpsuits come in several colors, suggesting that some have had specific duties or training, at least prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. The jumpsuits have optional pockets for the myriad of tools and equipment that must be carried about for certain tasks.

Deckhands serve on launch crews, repair and maintenance crews, damage control teams, and many other duties as assigned.

Frequently seen deckhands in the Re-imagined Series include Galen Tyrol, Cally Tyrol, Diana Seelix, James Lyman, and Anthony Figurski.

All deckhands are non-commissioned officers.
