The inaccurate Encyclopedia Galactica reference released in 1979 is noted here, but in a separate section for reference; it should not be used in articles unless properly compartmentalized.

The timeline is given in yahrens, the Colonial term for "years."   The date around which the timeline revolves is 7322, the only date given in the series, and one from the Colonial calendar. This was the yahren when the Cylons attacked Umbra on Caprica, as mentioned in "The Man with Nine Lives".

: The period between Battlestar Galactica (TOS) and Galactica 1980.

The Cylons, over this 30 year period, develop completely new technologies and evolve considerably - "beyond the wildest fears" of the Colonials, according to Dr. Zee. These new technologies include improved Cylon Raiders and the creation of humanoid Cylons.

Also, during this period, the Imperious Leader is apparently replaced, as his voice is considerably different by 3778.

Sometime prior to 3768, Captain Apollo dies.

* 7349: Dillon is born in space aboard a vessel in the Colonial Fleet.

* 7351: Jamie Hamilton is born in the United States on Earth.

* 7358: The last attack by the Cylons on the Colonial fleet until 1980.

* 7368: Starbuck is stranded on a desolate planetoid, where he rebuilds the Centurion named Cyrus (nicknamed "Cy" by Starbuck). Some time later at this same location, Dr. Zee is born to the mysterious woman, Angela.

* After 7368

::Dr. Zee's ship catches up to the Fleet. .

::Lt. Boomer is promoted to Colonel.

::Commander Adama grows a beard.

::Boxey begins to go by the name "Troy" as he grows older.

:Troy, Dillon and Jamie head back in time to World War II and then to the American Revolution to find Xavier.    The team is apparently successful in stopping Xavier, as there are no apparent changes to Earth's history. Xavier escapes being brought into custody, however, and remains in Earth's past. While there, he perfects a process of cellular transformation which can allow him to assume the appearance of others.

:Jamie returns to Earth, and back to the job she was offered with the United Broadcasting Corporation.

:In light of the unknown aircraft violating U.S. airspace, which are in reality Colonial Vipers, the United States Air Force dedicates new funds to the tracking of U.F.O.s.

:Dr. Zee leads a project to build a new saucer-shaped fighter craft, designed to thwart the Cylons.

:The Cylons determine to test some of their new technologies on the Colonial refugees. They plan to first attack the freighter Delphi, a straggling vessel in the Colonial Fleet, which happens to function as the Fleet' school.

Part of the series on
Timelines of the Battlestar Galactica series

The timeline below chronicles the events depicted in the Original Series.

This timeline excludes the spin-off series Galactica 1980 and does not include any information from separate continuity works such as novels and comics.

This was the yahren when the Cylons attacked Umbra on Caprica, as mentioned during Starbuck's interview with Zara (TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives").

Main article: Timeline (1980)

The period between the Original Series and Galactica 1980, and the episodes and events of the Galactica 1980 happened in this period. Of course, as Battlestar Wiki treats 1980 as a divergent continuity, and thus a separate timeline page is available.

  • According to Encyclopedia Galactica (a non-canonical piece of merchandise published in 1979):
    • ~1000: Oral traditions of the Thirteen Tribes are written down to form the Book of the Word. [2]
    • 1000-2100: The Age of the Philosophers occurs, during which the Books of the Lords of Kobol are composed. [2]
    • ~2200: The Industrial Age begins on Kobol. [2]
    • 2705: The Exodus from Kobol occurs. [2]
    • 2710: The Colonies are founded, marking the beginning of the Era of Darkness. [2]
    • 4479: The Academy is founded at Caprica, space travel is reinvented, and the Scientific renaissance begins. [3]
    • 4483: The Academy graduates its first class of nine Warriors in Yahren 4483. Their training emphasized the strategy of intercontinental warfare, and hand-to-hand martial arts that were obsolete even then. [4]
    • 4808: Contact between the Twelve Colonies is re-established. [2]
    • 4868: The Academy opens to students not of ruling buritician class and to women. [4]
    • 4920: Students from other Colonies are admitted to the Academy. The changes greatly improved the average quality of the student body, so that by Yahren 5000, the Academy graduated 10,000 in each class and had become the leading university of the Colonies. [4]
    • 4980: Ultra-light-drive is invented and the Long Peace begins. [2]
    • 4998: The Quorum of the Twelve is established. [2]
    • 5160: A Cybernetic revolt occurs and the Colonial Code is passed limiting artificial intelligences. [2]
    • 5220: Proteus prison established by Aerians. [5]
    • 5225: First contact with the Hasaris occurs. [2]
    • 5300: Proteus prison population reaches 100,000 persons. [5]
    • 5547: The Great Cylon War begins. [2]
      • Sometime "early in the Cylon War," Proteus prison is decommissioned and a majority of its prisoners and enforcers are evacuated, barring a few hundred in number that remained across both the prisoner and enforcer populations. [5]
    • 5597: Adar takes First Honors from the Institute of Diplomacy. Hoping to realign the human forces into a more effective political union, he became a staff assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve in 5597, but soon became frustrated by the internal bickering that characterized the Council at that time. [6]
    • 5770: the 300-member Praesidium was reinstated on Caprica after the abandonment of the wartime three-leader ruling councils system. During the Great Cylon War, the power of the buriticians had been effectively enhanced through crisis governance composed of a commoner, a military leader and a buritician. However, because of the length of the war, this system was deemed no longer sustainable and the full representative Praesidium was restored to power.[7]
    • 6250: The first Battlestar is commissioned. [2]
    • 6392: Carillon is discovered. [2]
    • 6440: Adama is born. [8]
    • 6450: A mining colony is established on Carillon, with human population reaching 50,000 at its peak in 6465. As the Great War intensified, lines of supply were impossible to maintain over the vast reaches of space between Carillon and the Colonies, and the mining operation was abandoned. [9]
    • 6453: Baltar is born on the asteroid Cygnus, a provincial outpost of the Picon Colony, where his family operated a small Tylium mine. [10]
    • 6465: Carillon mining colony reaches peak population of 50,000. [9]
    • 6470: Cylons capture Cygnus and Baltar lives as a prisoner for five yahren until 6475. [10]
    • 6475: Baltar is liberated from Cygnus. [10]
    • 6495: Cain graduates number one in the Academy class. [11]
    • 6498: Colonel Tigh begins his military career as a simple soldier, commissioned a Warrior on the field of battle for outstanding heroism during the Tauron campaign in 6525. [12]
    • 6519: Cassiopea is born. [13]
    • 6523: Starbuck is born. [14]
    • 6525: Apollo is born. [15]
      • Tigh is commissioned a Warrior on the field of battle for outstanding heroism during the Tauron campaign. [12]
    • 6527: Boomer is born. [16]
    • 6532: Athena is born. [17]
    • 6535: Zaccariah (sic) is born. [18]
    • 6560: Galactica is commissioned. [19][20]
    • 6562: Boomer and Starbuck graduate from the Academy; Boomer graduates with honors in electromagnetic science. [16]
    • 6570: The Final Destruction of the Colonies by Cylon forces occurs.[2] Apollo, Boomer, and Starbuck are awarded the Golden Cluster for his heroism in the Final Destruction.[15][14][16] Adar and Zac die during the Final Destruction.[6][18] Cain's fate during the Great Destruction is unknown. [11]
    • 6572: A successful raid on Cylon Gomoray (sic) base occurs, along with the possible destruction of battlestar Pegasus. Cain's fate remains in question. [2][11]
  • Sheba's entry in Encyclopedia Galactica notes the events that cut her off from Pegasus occur in 6577[21], although the timeline fully provided later on notes that these events occur in 6572[2][11].
