A scanner display of quadrant Alpha Six.

Alpha Six quadrant is a binary star system outside the Cyrannus galaxy where Proteus is located.

According to scans from Galactica, the star system has a concentration of asteroids.

After encountering Robber on an asteroid, Starbuck is told that the asteroid belt is a good place for pirates to hide and strike from (TOS: "The Long Patrol").

Notes[edit]

  • Given that Galactica did not have star charts of the area, it is likely that the name was assigned by either a computer or an officer.

The Epsilon Quadrant is the location of the magnetic void (TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I"), as well as Kobol (TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II"). The Battle at Galaxy's Edge takes place in an unnamed star system, located in the direction of Star Quadrant Epsilon seven mark four (TOS: "The Hand of God"). It is in proximity of Otarsis Quadrant, where Galactica's probe lead by Lieutenant Boomer discovers a Cylon listening post (TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I"). Epsilon Quadrant is also the location of Arcta (TOS: "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part I").

Three celestial bodies in Otarsis.[1]

Otarsis Quadrant is an area of space in the Cyrannus galaxy (TOS: "The Long Patrol") consisting of at least three celestial bodies. Two appear to be planetoids, while one appears to be a satellite orbiting a green planet, which appear to orbit a star.

A Cylon listening post is located on the green planet, which Lieutenant Boomer refers to as an "asteroid".

Colonel Tigh considers the path through Otarsis to be a better route than the magnetic void detected by Patrol One, consisting of Starbuck and Apollo, in the neighboring Epsilon Quadrant (TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I").

The Battle for Otarsis Quadrant is a result of Doctor Salik's need to discover the source of the mysterious infection that has downed almost all of Galactica's seasoned Viper pilots.

With a fresh crew of female Warriors, former shuttle pilots with no Cylon battle experience, the replacement Blue Squadron is tasked with protecting Salik's medical shuttle.

The squadron, commanded by Captain Apollo and his second, Lieutenant Starbuck, lead the squadron into Otarsis Quadrant. Detecting the asteroid in Sector Delta 5, Apollo orders the squadron to stay out of the Cylon listening post's scanning range at Omega 4, and attempts a low-level, solo approach from the other side of the asteroid in an attempt to sneak attack the base before it launches Raiders, so as to protect the squadron. Despite objections from Lieutenant Deitra, Apollo proceeds.

As Apollo executes his plan, Lieutenant Brie detects a blip on the scanner coming from Tau Quadrant, rear of their position. Starbuck informs her that it is the shuttle; Brie reports that the blip is closing in on their position. Starbuck scans the incoming blip, his warbook confirming that it is a Cylon Raider. Starbuck orders Deitra to assume command of the squadron, while he and his wingman, Athena, move to intecept.

Upon assuming command, Deitra orders the squadron to form on her, and takes them towards the asteroid. Starbuck destroys the fighter, though not in time to prevent the Raider from warning the base. Starbuck and Athena turbo towards the asteroid, knowing that Apollo will need their assistance.

On the asteroid, Apollo flies toward the base, using a canyon leading towards it as cover. Upon approach, the base's launch bays begin to open and a squadron of Raiders launches. Apollo takes out a launching Raider before firing his thrusters, although he is pursued by an enemy fighter that also launches from the base. Apollo warns the squadron that the Cylons are launching fighters and orders a return to Galactica; Apollo's Viper is hit, though still able to fly.

Deitra disregards the order. Under her command, Blue Squadron engages the fighters, with Deitra taking out the Raider pursuing Apollo. During the fight, Deitra, Serina and Brie make their first kills, while Apollo resumes his attack on the base. Firing into the launch bay, Apollo destroys the listening post and notifies the medical shuttle that the asteroid is secure, allowing Salik to explore the asteroid and later discover a cure for the infection.

The attack diminishes Baltar's ability to track the Fleet in that area (TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I").

Jolly and Boomer on the asteroid surface.

The Otarsis Quadrant asteroid[1] is a planetoid with an atmosphere suitable to humans.

A patrol from Galactica, consisting of Lieutenant Boomer and Flight Sergeant Jolly, discover strange readings on this asteroid and investigate.

Upon landing, they discover that there is a Cylon listening post on the planet and are also infected with an unknown virus, which they bring back to Galactica and infect half the bridge officers and all but two Viper pilots.

Unable to find a cure for this virus, Doctor Salik and a medical team land on the asteroid, themselves accompanied by a Viper squadron consisting of newly trained female warriors. Prior to landing, this Viper party manages to dispatch Cylon Raiders launched from the post while Captain Apollo destroys the post (TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I").

Separate Continuity[edit]

In the Berkley novelization, The Tombs of Kobol, the asteroid is bluish in color. Its surface is described as a "rock-strewn craggy surface" with a substance on the rocks that appears viscous and oily. It is later determined that this substance is the "virus" that Boomer and Jolly contract during the patrol, bringing back to Galactica to spread amongst the pilots, despite going through the standard decontamination procedure.

  1. This is a Battlestar Wiki descriptive term.

Starbuck and Boomer in the power sled with Siress Belloby's energizer, embarking towards Serenity (with an unnamed ringed planetoid visible in the night sky) after landing on Sectar (TOS: "The Magnificent Warriors").

Zeta Quadrant is the location of Sectar (TOS: "The Magnificent Warriors").

It resides within the Cyrannus galaxy, and consists of at least two additional stellar bodies, including Sectar's moon and an unidentified ringed, brown orange-color planetoid that can be clearly seen from Sectar with the unaided eye (TOS: "The Magnificent Warriors").

Note[edit]

  • The name originates from the chyron shown as the Colonials arrive, identifying "The Planet Sectar in Quadrant Zeta Startime 00147002".
