Rising Star in the separate continuity

T.S.S. Rising Star is one of the 220 civilian ships of battlestar Galactica's rag-tag fugitive fleet.

History

Prior to the Battle of Cimtar and subsequent fall of the Twelve Colonies, Rising Star was a luxury liner operated by Trans Stellar Spacelines ^{(TOS: "Saga of a Star World")} which traveled throughout the Colonies and various sectors in the Colonial sphere of influence ^{(TOS: "The Long Patrol")}. It is capable of both atmospheric and space flight, as well as planetary landing and unaided launch ^{(TOS: "Murder on the Rising Star")}.

Rising Star consists of at least seven decks, including an "elite" level and storage facilities inaccessible by passengers ^{(TOS: "Saga of a Star World")}. Among these levels are a gambling chancery ^{(TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives", "Murder on the Rising Star")}, guest rooms ^{(TOS: "The Long Patrol")}, dining level ^{(TOS: "The Long Patrol")} and recreation level where visitors could watch Triad competitions ^{(TOS: "Murder on the Rising Star")}. She also contains a main waiting area for passengers that arrive and depart the ship ^{(TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives")} and various entertainment areas, such as open stages where dances and shows are performed ^{(TOS: "War of the Gods, Part II", "The Man with Nine Lives")}.

Her crew consists of various hired security guards, maitre d's, chancery game operators and other crew employed by Trans Stellar Spacelines.

After the Thousand-Yahren War

Rising Star

With the Thousand-Yahren War resulting in a devastating defeat for the Colonials, Rising Star became one of the 220 ships to survive the Cylons' holocaust. Under the direction of Galactica's Warriors, including Flight Sergeant Ortega, Rising Star is used to rescue any surviving women and children on Caprica. Despite these restrictions, Ortega takes bribes by at least three men for spots aboard the ship ^{(TOS: "Murder on the Rising Star")}.

After the Fleet was settled, Commander Adama opens the dining level on Rising Star as a morale booster among the survivors, in the hopes of giving them an evening to look forward too. So popular is this idea that the waiting list is noted to be at least a yahren long ^{(TOS: "The Long Patrol")}.

Further, many of the facilities aboard Rising Star are used by the survivors in the Fleet, including the chancery, dancing halls, and for sports, such as Triad. Shuttles between ships in the Fleet, such as Canaris, ferry survivors to and from Rising Star ^{(TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives")}.

Astral Lounge

The Astral Lounge is an open location featuring various tables and a large, open area for dancing. Celebrations held in Count Iblis' honor were held here following a Triad match wherein Boomer's blue team won ^{(TOS: "War of the Gods, Part II")}.

Maga and two other Borellian Nomen pursue Chameleon to Rising Star. While seated at a table, the youngest, Taba, violently reacts to sighting Chameleon with his dance partner, Siress Blassie, by drawing his laser bola, prompting the unwanted attention of Boomer and Jolly to Maga's disgust. A vertical supporter takes the brunt of the laser bola's impact before the bola self-destruct ^{(TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives")}.

Gambling Chancery

A gambling chancery compartment features numerous games of chance, ranging from card games to slot machines. A row of slot-machine games within tubular projections are arrayed on a bulkhead, while other games of chance akin to dice games and card games, are hosted at various tables along the inside of the compartment ^{(TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives", "Murder on the Rising Star")}.

Travel Facilities

Docking Lounge

The Docking Lounge is a pass-through room where those just docking egress into Rising Star. It also acts as a waiting room for passengers waiting for their shuttle. A bulkhead scanner shows various content, including Omega's recruitment commercial ^{(TOS: "The Man with Nine Lives", "Murder on the Rising Star")}.

Re-imagined Series

• A ship matching Rising Star's design appears in Pegasus's civilian fleet in "Razor," as one of many visual nods to the Original Series in the episode. However, it was not Rising Star herself, as these ships were abandoned and did not make contact with Galactica's civilian fleet. Another ship sharing the same configuration is part of Galactica's fleet ^{(TRS: "Escape Velocity")}, although it is not identified by name until "The Plan".
