Berkley Novelizations

• In the novelization of "Saga of a Star World," Athena is a blonde while Cassiopeia is a brunette.

• In the casino, when Cassiopeia storms away from Starbuck, Athena angrily hands him the room key and leaves as well. Later, Athena regrets not having stayed with Starbuck. She believes she could have made him forget about Cassiopeia.

• In one of the subsequent books, it is said that Athena realizes that her brother Apollo is her father's favorite, and she is okay with it. She also accepts her role on the bridge partly because it's enough of a burden for her father to have to deal with Apollo's life being constantly in danger.

• In The Nightmare Machine, Adama lets her join a Viper squadron to help fight off the Cylons.

Early Life

A young Athena in 7328 (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #1)}).

During the battle of Umbra in 7322, Athena and Apollo are ferried with their pregnant mother, Ila, to battlestar Rylon — where Captain Adama is stationed (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #1)}).

In 7328, living in relative luxury in Caprica, Athena pursues a career in the Warrior with the aim of outranking her brother, Apollo. During this time, they encounter Starbuck who re-enters Adama's life when asking for sponsorship of his application to the Colonial military academy. Despite a rough start, Apollo and Starbuck become friends, and Starbuck becomes smitten with Athena (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #1)}).

Entering the Academy, Athena becomes proficient in computer technology, and is assigned to Galactica under her father's command in 7346. After Starbuck is framed for the death of Kandi Trieste by Councilor Osiris's daughter and aide, Diana, Athena uncovers footage from Erin Dream's casino that would have proven Starbuck's innocence. Diana subsequently thwarts and captures Athena (aware of Athena's abilities, for she was enrolled at the Academy during the same time period that Athena had been), and absconds with her to the ice moon of Thrace to be held as collateral to prevent Adama from acting against her father's interests (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #3)}—^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #4)}).

Athena frees herself from her cell on the old tylium mine, sparring with Diana and nearly killing her, were it not for Apollo's intervention and their subsequent escape from the mine before its destruction by its own overloading reactor (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #4)}).

Fleeing the Cylon Tyranny

Second Lieutenant Athena often handles Officer of the Watch during red shift, notably during the discovery of a quantum storm zone while Colonel Tigh leads a repair team on the old luxury liner Ariadna (^{(Comics: Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #6)}).

She often trades barbs with Starbuck, which Adama diffuses with patriarchal aplomb (^{(Comics: Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #7)}).

Athena helps uncover the fact that Xam is responsible for not only the dreams of Earth affecting a great many of the Fleet's denizens but also the phantom "artifact" that is "discovered" in the storm zone (^{(Comics: Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #8)}—^{(Comics: Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #9)}).

Marvel Comics

• While in combat with Cylon Raiders, Athena's Viper vanishes. She is magically transported to a strange world inhabited by a humanoid named Res. In reality, Res is a shapeshifter in search of love. Apollo and Starbuck arrive to rescue Athena. Res reveals that he also brought Athena to the planet to help him transcend his mortal form. Athena fires a laser at Res at his request, and Res ascends to the next plane — his voice resonates from the grave as the Colonials leave and the planet explodes, assuring her that what Athena did was right. It should be noted that the Cylons they encountered were part of the illusion as well (^{(Comics: A World for the Killing!)}).

Maximum Press comics

• 20 yahrens after the events of the original series, Athena is now a colonel and has moved on from Starbuck, despite the fact that Cassiopeia died yahrens earlier.

• In The Enemy Within series, a Cylon humanoid named Ares joins the Colonial fleet with the intention of sabotage. Before doing so, he romances Athena and actually sleeps with her.
