Empyrean Expanse

The Empyrean Expanse is a region of space the Fleet pass through on their journey to Earth sometime after 7348.

This nebula teems with various humanoid sentient life. Despite the varieties of life, the nebula's natural state renders most scanning devices nearly useless, with few exceptions (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica Classic #0)}).

Since the incursion of the Okaati over a millennia ago, resource scarcity of tylium reigns and those various species victimized by the Okaati create their own posse comitatus, the Comitat (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica Classic #4)}).

The Narrows

The Narrows are known by the inhabitants as an area of the nebula "where intense clouds offer few paths of escape."

Sometime during or thereafter 7348, Parrin directs the Fleet to the Narrows as part of her plan to capture the civilian ships to use as tokens to exchange for tylium from the Cylons (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica Classic #3)}).

With Galactica left behind by Okaati treachery, the Comitat are able to intercept the battlestar and force Commander Adama to stand trial for the Colonials role in aiding their enemy (^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica Classic #4)}).

Kiernu

A species the Fleet encounters prior to deeper egress into the Expanse, and their eventual encounter with the Okaati. The Kiernu demonstrate hostility to outsiders that verges on xenophobic, at least to the perception of the Colonials. Later, Thane Korbok reveals that the Kiernu—mass-exterminated by the Cylons under Lucifer's command for failing to hinder the Colonials' travels—were once welcoming people, whose generosity was taken advantage of by the Otakki a yahren prior to their encounter with humans.
