Solonite is a highly-dangerous, high-yield non-nuclear substance used by both the Cylons and Colonials for explosives. Solonite is effectual even in hand-held ordnance, namely the solonite charge.
Notable Use
The Colonials use the explosive to destroy the Ravashol pulsar in the form of an hand-held solonite charge, effectual against the most resistant of materials, notably magna (TOS: "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part II").
Cylon Raiders loaded with solonite attempt to kamikaze into Galactica, causing major damage to the last battlestar. Apollo and Starbuck later attach solonite charges to Galactica's hull to inflict breaches at key points to vent the subsequent dangerous, uncontrolled blaze into space (TOS: "Fire in Space").
Tie-in Material Information
- According to Encyclopedia Galactica (a non-canonical piece of merchandise published in 1979):
Notes
- In canon, solonite's derivation from solium is unstated. The non-canonical supplement Encyclopedia Galactica confirms the connection between solonite (spelled "solenite" in that work) and solium, noting that solonite is a refined explosive derivative of solium fuel.
