Metropolitan Levitation Mass Transit

From Battlestar Wiki, the free, open content Battlestar Galactica encyclopedia and episode guide
The Lev train leaving the Caprica City station before Ben Stark's suicide bombing (Caprica pilot).

The Metropolitan Levitation Mass Transit (also known as the MLMT, Lev, or maglev) train was a public transportation system in use on Caprica. The MLMT utilized magnetic levitation to propel train cars to various destinations with platforms in cities including Caprica City (CAP: Caprica pilot).

Bombing

In YR42, some 58 years prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Athena Academy student and member of the Soldiers of the One terrorist group, Ben Stark plotted and carried out the suicide bombing of Maglev 23, a train departing Caprica City. Aboard the Lev train were Stark's girlfriend Zoe Graystone and Shannon and Tamara Adama, all killed in the bombing. While not "authorized" by the Soldiers of the One, the attack was nevertheless condoned by fellow monotheist, Sister Clarice Willow as fighting "evil".

Caprican Global Defense Department Agent Jordan Durham was assigned to investigate the bombing, pursuing evidence that lead him to mistakenly believe Zoe Graystone was a conspirator in the attack (CAP: Caprica pilot).

Notes

  • The name Metropolitan Levitation Mass Transit comes from scene descriptions within the script of the pilot episode of Caprica. It is referred to in dialog only as the MLMT train or Lev.
  • "Lev" is short-hand for magnetic levitation.
  • It is unclear if the Lev remained after the first Cylon War as it never appeared in episodes of Battlestar Galactica.
  • It is also unclear exactly what the range of the Lev train was, whether is was merely municipal transit or intercity, as we saw only one station stop labeled simply "Caprica City".
  • The Caprica City Lev station is a redressed version of a Skytrain station in Vancouver, where the pilot for Caprica was shot.
