- This article discusses the artifact. For the episode of the same name, see "The Eye of Jupiter."
The Eye of Jupiter may be an artifact contained within The Temple of Five, located on the algae planet, that supposedly will give further clues to the location of Earth (The Eye of Jupiter). The truth behind the eye is that it is not within the temple at all, the Eye of Jupiter is the dying star the planet orbits around. When the star goes supernova it is observed by Chief Tyrol and Major Adama to look very much like an eye, like the sun glyph outlined on the floor of the temple and on the central pillar. After Galactica escapes the destruction of the solar system by the nova, Lt. Gaeta analyzes the data Tyrol brought back on the temple and the nova. He surmises that the nova was an astrological marker which pointed the way to the remains of another supernova some 13,000 lightyears away. Presumably, that nova is in the vicinity of Earth (Rapture).
Notes
- Eye of Jupiter is also another name for the Great Red Spot on the planet Jupiter, in the Solar system.
