Stealthstar 7746VA was a designation used for a Colonial stealth reconnaissance craft deployed in classified intelligence operations circa 6 BCH (94YR)[footnotes 1].
Mission Profile
Lieutenant Daniel "Bulldog" Novacek, from the battlestar Valkyrie, piloted this craft across the Armistice Line in order to determine whether or not the Cylons were performing a military buildup.
During the mission, the Stealthstar had open comm channels, with active DRADIS, perhaps in an attempt to lure the Cylons with the intent of going silent at the first sign of trouble. Its position was clearly visible to Valkyrie's DRADIS. However, the Stealthstar was interdicted by a craft of unknown designation (presumably Cylon) which quickly jumped in and out. In an attempt to conceal the mission, Valkyrie's CO, Commander William Adama, attempted to destroy the craft before the Cylons found it. This resulted in severe damage before its stealth functions were fully utilized (TRS: "Hero").
Destruction
Following the Cylon attack on Novacek's fighter, Commander Adama ordered a ship-to-ship missile launched from Valkyrie to prevent capture of Colonial military technology. Novacek ejected moments before the missile impact completely destroyed the stealth reconnaissance vessel.[footnotes 2]
Notes
Technical Specifications
The Stealthstar utilized the Viper Mark VII cockpit configuration for pilot operations. On Valkyrie's DRADIS display system, the ship was designated with the tactical identifier "S-Star" for tracking purposes during the reconnaissance mission.
Production History
The Stealthstar design represents a redress of the Blackbird stealth fighter created for the series.[commentary 1] This production decision allowed the series to create a visually distinct reconnaissance craft while utilizing existing assets.
From Script to Screen
The "Hero" script provides additional context about the Stealthstar's mission parameters and technical capabilities. The script identifies the craft specifically as a "stealth recon ship" and emphasizes its experimental nature within the Colonial Fleet's reconnaissance capabilities.[production 1]
