A laseronic ergon scan is a piece of ballistics technology employed by the Colonials.
The scanner works by comparing the "fingerprints" left by a laser weapon when it is used to kill someone. By determining the number of ergons left by the laser in the person's body, the forensics expert can compare the output of various laser firearms in order to determine which weapon was used (TOS: "Murder on the Rising Star").
