Dennis Haysbert (born June 2, 1954) provided the voice for the Imperious Leader and portrayed an unnamed pilot (uncredited, perhanps as "The Creature") in the Galactica 1980 episode "Space Croppers". He was initially considered by Michael Rymer for the role of Daniel Novacek in the Re-imagined Series episode "Hero", who was portrayed by Carl Lumbly.
Born in San Mateo, California, Haysbert began acting in television in 1979. His role in Galactica 1980 was one of his earliest acting jobs in Hollywood. Genre fans may also remember him in the role of Lt. Parsons in the second season of the Glen A. Larson produced Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
Haysbert had a number of TV and movie roles over the following twenty years, including the role of Pedro Cerrano in the Major League series of motion pictures, and the role of Dr. Theodore Morris in the television series Now and Again. However, it was not until the 21st century that he truly "broke out' as an actor.
In 2001, Haysbert became well known when he took on the role of Senator David Palmer in the television series 24, where he ultimately portrayed the character as he became the first African-American President of the United States on the series. Later, he became the star of the series The Unit playing Sergeant Major Jonas Blaine.
Haysbert is currently the spokesman for All-State Insurance.
Haysbert was married to Elena Simms from 1980 to 1984, and to Lynn Griffith from 1989 to 2001.
