Born in Highland Park, Illinois, television viewers of the 1970s remember Reed best as Mike Brady, the patriarch a large family in the long-running series, The Brady Bunch (itself based on the film Yours, Mine, and Ours). Before that, he co-starred in the legal drama The Defenders with E.G. Marshall from 1961 to 1965. He had also had a recurring role on the detective series Mannix as Lieutenant Adam Tobias, which he continued to do several times a year even while he was starring on the Brady Bunch.
