The Beings of Light are ascended beings who inhabit a separate dimension outside of the one inhabited by other species. They travel the known universe in a Ship of Lights, and are referred to in text as "angels" by the primitive people on Kobol. These beings are reputed to help develop the civilization that would become the Twelve Colonies before its destruction by the Cylons (TOS: "War of the Gods, Part II").

Revelations and Origin

As later discovered by Apollo in 7360, Adama knew more of the Beings than he had let on, even to his own children. Amongst them was the fact that Parnassus had been humanity's true origin, and that the Lords of Kobol had become the so-called "Beings of Light" themselves during Kobol's reign[1] (RH: Armageddon).

Those of pure Kobollian blood have a genetic, ancestral memory left to them by the Lords of Kobol, and with that are able to ascend to the different plane of existence, existing on the lightships in the "after life." This genetic imprint allows for the acceleration of the molecular structure of the body, so that it may inhabit the realm of the lightships[1].

Despite their undefinable advancement to the Colonials and other inhabitants of the mortal realm, the Beings do not know where the mythical planet of Earth resides[2] (RH: Armageddon).

Appearances to the Fleet

In their first appearance to common day Colonials in 7342, many of their number appear as humanoids wearing ethereal robes, with most of the face (sans eyes) covered by a niqab (TOS: "War of the Gods, Part II"), although one by the name of John later presents itself in a more distinctly, professional human form (TOS: "Experiment in Terra").

Apparently mistakes were made in the past by these advanced beings, as they seem reluctant to interfere directly with the Colonials or the Terrans. They help Apollo and battlestar Galactica save the Terrans from themselves (TOS: "Experiment in Terra").

Apollo's third contact 18 yahrens later reveals that Zac had become of their number following his death by the Cylons at the Battle of Cimtar[3], his body repaired in the same manner that Apollo's had previously been[1]. Zac reveals what he is permitted to of the Kobollian past, as well as the truth about the Thirteenth Tribe[4].

Zac informs Apollo Count Iblis is a fallen member of this race, who has chosen to use his powers for selfish and malignant purposes (TOS: "War of the Gods, Part II"). During the reign of Kobol, Iblis and his followers of the House of Iblis fled to commit atrocities that the Beings of Light forbade discussion on, and he is deemed truly unique given his ability to feed on fear and death[1][4] (RH: Armageddon).
