Kendall Cross (born March 10, 1972) is a Canadian actress who portrays Agent Youngblood in Caprica. Born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Cross attended the University of British Columbia where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in stage acting.[external 1]

Career

Cross landed her first television audition in the series Highlander (1992) and has since appeared in numerous television and film projects spanning over 20 years.[external 1] Her career has encompassed both television and film work, with notable appearances in major productions. In an interview, she discussed the challenges for Canadian actors securing lead roles in American productions filmed in Vancouver, noting that one often has to "take what you can get" while still maintaining professional standards.[commentary 1]

Film Work

Cross's most notable film roles include Flight 93 (2006), where she portrayed Deena Burnett, and The Butterfly Effect (2004).[external 1] The TV movie Flight 93, which aired on A&E Network, was produced with the cooperation of surviving family members and focused on the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.[production 1] Her early film career included roles in Bliss (1997), followed by appearances in major blockbusters such as X2: X-Men United (2003), Paycheck (2003), and Elektra (2005).[external 2] She also appeared in Two for the Money (2005) with Al Pacino, Things We Lost in the Fire (2007) with Benicio del Toro, Space Buddies (2009), Girl in Progress (2012) with Eva Mendes, and Elysium (2013) with Matt Damon.[external 2]

For her role in Grand Unified Theory, she won the Best Actress in a Feature Award in 2016.[external 3] Cross described the experience of shooting the feature film in just 12 days as "crazy,"[commentary 2] noting that the success of the production under such a tight schedule was a testament to the casting and the preparedness of the actors.[commentary 2]

Television Career

Cross has built an extensive television career with appearances in numerous genre series. Her early television work included roles in Highlander: The Series (1992-98), Sliders (1994-99), and Strange Luck (Fox, 1995-96), as well as starring roles in the TV movies "Murder in My Mind" (CBS, 1996-97) and "Volcano: Fire on the Mountain" (ABC, 1996-97).[external 2]

Cross has been featured as a guest star in several episodes of various Canadian-produced television series, including Julia Donovan in Stargate SG-1 (4 episodes), various roles in Smallville, and appearances in Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.[external 4] Reflecting on her recurring role as reporter Julia Donovan, Cross stated she saw the character as having an "innocence" and being an "eager beaver" journalist who didn't fully grasp the depth of the Stargate program until she was completely immersed in it.[commentary 3] The role was not initially planned as recurring, and she would be brought back as the writers found new ways to incorporate her character into the story.[commentary 4]

In Smallville, she notably played Jessica Kent in the Season Three episode "Relic," a Little Girl's Mother in the Season One episode "Jitters," and provided the voice of Lara-El for the Season Three episode "Memoria."[production 2] Her other genre credits include Dark Angel, Seven Days, and First Wave.

Cross portrayed Major Byrne in Season Two of The 100.[external 5] More recent television work includes roles in Virgin River as Valerie (2021), Another Life as Dr. Maura Brebs, and Van Helsing.[external 1] She also had a recurring role on "Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove" (Hallmark Channel, 2012-15).[external 2]

Cross has continued working steadily in television through 2025, with appearances in Hallmark Channel productions and other Canadian television series, demonstrating her ongoing versatility across different genres and networks.[external 6]

Voice Acting

Cross has expanded her career into voice acting and describes herself as a "VO artist" and teacher.[commentary 5] She has expressed a deep passion for voice-over work, noting that it has become her primary focus and that she prefers it because it emphasizes ability over physical appearance.[commentary 6] Her voice acting work includes providing the voice of Lara-El in Smallville before the role was later recast with Helen Slater in Season Seven.[production 2] Beyond her screen work, Cross has also worked as an acting teacher and voice-over instructor, combining her extensive professional experience with education.[commentary 6] She has shared her voice-over origin story in a video for On The Mic Training, the school where she instructs.[commentary 7]

Personal Life

Cross has been married to Hans Bergstrom, a mechanical engineer, since 2005. They have two children.[external 1] Cross is known for her trademark deep dimples when smiling and stands 5'10" tall.[external 3] In 2016, she won the Best Actress in a Feature Award for Grand Unified Theory.[external 3]

Beyond her screen work, Cross describes herself as a lover of water sports and ice cream, and has maintained an active social media presence where she shares insights into her professional and personal life.[commentary 5] She has successfully balanced her acting career with teaching, contributing to the development of new performers in the industry.[commentary 6]
