King Lau (劉景峯) is a Hong Kong-born Canadian actor who portrayed a Bouncer at Mysteries in Caprica's "Ghosts in the Machine".

Early Life

Lau was born in the Kowloon Walled City of Hong Kong.[external 1] He immigrated with his family to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at an early age.[external 2] His father worked as a steel worker while his mother worked in a garment factory as a seamstress.[external 3]

Career

Professional Wrestling

While attending university and working towards becoming a Religious Studies Professor, Lau changed career paths and entered the world of professional wrestling.[external 4] He trained in the legendary "Dungeon" of the Hart family in Calgary, Alberta.[external 5] His debut match was at Stampede Wrestling founder and wrestling icon Stu Hart's 80th Birthday event.[external 6]

As the first full ethnic Chinese Professional Wrestler, Lau was featured in a newspaper article in Hong Kong.[external 7] During his time as a professional wrestler, he became involved in local independent films and other production projects, which gave him additional outlets to perform.[external 8]

Acting

The newspaper article about Lau's wrestling career caught the attention of a Chinese film company, leading to him being cast alongside martial arts master and Hong Kong screen legend Gordon Liu and popular Hong Kong actress Flora Chan in a drama series.[external 9] This experience affirmed his inclination to pursue acting as a career.[external 10]

Lau is known for his roles in Death and Other Details, Mulan (2020), and Supernatural (2010).[external 11] In Supernatural, he portrayed Zao Shen in 2010.[external 12] In the 2020 film Mulan, he played Bati Tegin.[external 13] In the 2024 series Death and Other Details, he portrayed Hongping in three episodes.[external 14]

Additional television credits include When Calls the Heart (2024) as Prison Guard,[external 15] Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021) as Guard,[external 16] Debris (2021) as Situation Team Agent,[external 17] Once Upon a Time (2017) as Ticket Carny,[external 18] and Arrow (2017) as Hideo Yamane.[external 19]

Film credits include Heroes of the Golden Masks (2023) as King Yufu (voice),[external 20] Woody Woodpecker (2017) as Wealthy Collector #3,[external 21] and Birth of the Dragon (2016), in which he had a character named King Lau.[external 22]

Traditional Chinese Medicine

In addition to his acting and wrestling careers, Lau is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturist.[external 23] He describes himself as a "Former Pro Wrestler. Hart Dungeon trained. First ethnic Chinese Pro Wrestler. Present day Actor & Acupuncturist/Dr Of Traditional Chinese Medicine."[external 24]
