Thar is the homeworld of the Tharians, a pacifist race with the ability to manipulate the dimension of time.
When first discovered by Galactica, the planet appears to be an uninhabited paradise, an ideal candidate for colonization. However, this is an illusion; the Tharians are showing the Colonials the planet as it existed a thousand years in the past. In reality, Thar is home to a vast, futuristic city where the Tharians live in perfect peace.
The Tharians test the character of the Colonial Fleet by projecting an illusory spaceship in their path. When the Colonials show aggression towards the image, they are deemed too violent. The Tharians ask the Fleet to leave their world, and the magnificent city vanishes from Colonial view once more (Comics: Look-In Magazine: Storyline 2).[1]
