A Cylon attack occurred at the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards during the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. The shipyards were hit with several nuclear weapons and attacked by many squadrons of Cylon Raiders. Five Colonial Fleet ships, including two battlestars, were destroyed instantly. Admiral Helena Cain ordered battlestar Pegasus to make a blind jump, and luckily managed to survive the risky jump maneuver unharmed.
The Fall of the Scorpion (Scorpia) Fleet Shipyards is an attack launched by the Cylons as part of their of their overall attack on the Twelve Colonies. With numerous Raider squadrons armed with nuclear missiles, the Cylons destroy the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards as well as at least three battlestars and several support vessels Razor.

Pegasus was in dock in preparation for an overhaul scheduled over three months. The ship's computer network was taken offline in preparation of the overhaul. Therefore Pegasus was largely unaffected by Cylon infiltration of the Command Navigation Program, and only the defense grid and navigational computer were compromised. Admiral Cain was preparing for shore leave, as were many of her crew. She had planned to visit family and friends on Tauron when the attack commenced.
The Cylons achieve complete surprise upon jumping to the shipyards, and the Colonials have little time to put up any defense. At least one battlestar is immediately destroyed after being struck by a missile, and rows of the shipyard's Vipers and Raptors are destroyed before taking off. In conjunction with the attack, the Cylons initiate a nuclear strike on the surface of Scorpia The Plan.

Cain retrieved as many civilian and military staff from the shipyard into the relative safety of her battlestar as she could. Damage from the Cylon vessels led to exploding fuel and ordnance on the hangar decks, causing over 700 casualties.
The battlestar Pegasus, commanded by Rear Admiral Helena Cain, is docked at the shipyards in order to undergo a three-month systems overhaul when the attack occurs. In preparation for the refit, all computer networks are shut down, leaving the battlestar largely unaffected by Cylon-infiltrated Command Navigation Program. During the attack, Colonel Belzen reports that all computers are down and that the crew must perform all functions manually.

With no defensive options, and destruction imminent, Cain ordered the CIC crew to activate the FTL system and make a jump: "Wherever. Anywhere. Just jump", she recalls to Commander Adama and President Laura Roslin in a conversation shortly after Galactica encounters Cain's battlestar months later. Pegasuss escape was aided by the electro-magnetic pulse from the nuclear detonations that blinded the Cylon DRADIS and made them oblivious of her survival.
Tethered to its dock, Pegasus is swarmed by Raiders and struck by several missiles. Fuel and ordnance ignite on the battlestar's hangar decks, causing explosions that cause over 700 casualties. Cain orders a hasty departure from the dock, and the ship fires its reversing thrusters and tears itself free from the burning shipyard's umbilicals.

The blind jump was successful in that Pegasus escaped both the Cylon attack as well as the chance of colliding with celestial bodies.
With Pegasuss defenses still down, and two nuclear missiles inbound, Cain orders the CIC crew to spin up the FTL drive and to perform a blind jump on her command, despite the risk of reemerging inside a celestial body. The nuclear detonations throughout the shipyard create bursts of electromagnetic radiation that mask the jump and fool the Cylons into believing that the ship is destroyed (TRS: "Pegasus"; "Razor").

Pegasus also learned of the tainted CNP and its infiltration vulnerability from the Cylons from wireless chatter (as Petty Officer Anastasia Dualla learned in communications with the dying battlestar fleet), and summarily made essential modifications to all of her remaining military fighters and battlestar computers to avoid the threat.

With the "fog of war" and the desperate manner of their escape, Pegasus is apparently unaware of Galacticas survival and proceeds to conduct attacks on Cylon forces after leaving the solar system of the Colonies ("Pegasus", "Razor").

Fall of the Twelve Colonies Fall of the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards Battle of Ragnar Anchorage

The Fall of the Scorpion (Scorpia) Fleet Shipyards is an attack launched by the Cylons as part of their of their overall attack on the Twelve Colonies. With numerous Raider squadrons armed with nuclear missiles, the Cylons destroy the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards as well as at least three battlestars and several support vessels (TRS: "Razor").

The Cylons achieve complete surprise upon jumping to the shipyards, and the Colonials have little time to put up any defense. At least one battlestar is immediately destroyed after being struck by a missile, and rows of the shipyard's Vipers and Raptors are destroyed before taking off. In conjunction with the attack, the Cylons initiate a nuclear strike on the surface of Scorpia (TRS: "The Plan").

With Pegasus's defenses still down, and two nuclear missiles inbound, Cain orders the CIC crew to spin up the FTL drive and to perform a blind jump on her command, despite the risk of reemerging inside a celestial body. The nuclear detonations throughout the shipyard create bursts of electromagnetic radiation that mask the jump and fool the Cylons into believing that the ship is destroyed (TRS: "Pegasus"; "Razor").

 1. In "Pegasus," Cain says "Five ships, two of them battlestars, they were destroyed right there." In "Razor" two battlestars can be clearly seen in the establishing shot of the shipyard, and 3 ships of Valkyrie's ship class are destroyed later. Together with the unknown vessel above Pegasus, this makes at least four initial losses, which makes it likely that Cain's comment is an estimate.
 2. It is unknown whether the large vessel above Pegasus is a designated as a battlestar by the Colonial Fleet.
