Luke Camilleri (born June 23, 1984, in Courtenay, British Columbia) is a Canadian actor who portrayed Brewer in Caprica's "Unvanquished".
Career
editCamilleri grew up in Courtenay, British Columbia, and graduated from Georges P. Vanier Secondary School before training in the Studio 58 theatre arts program at Langara College in Vancouver, graduating in 2008.[commentary 1][external 1] He recalled being taught primarily by Studio 58 artistic director Kathryn Shaw, describing the program as "very thorough" despite its demanding reputation.[commentary 2] In July 2006, as the 22-year-old prepared to begin his second year of drama studies, Camilleri won a $10,000 Developing Artist Grant from the Hnatyshyn Foundation in the English theatre acting category; the foundation, a private charity established by former governor general Ramon John Hnatyshyn, announced that year's winners in Ottawa.[external 2][external 3]
Camilleri's early screen credits included a one-episode role as Gordo in the A&E miniseries The Andromeda Strain (2008)[external 4] and a minor part as a Greek god in the television movie Paparazzi Princess: The Paris Hilton Story (2008).[external 5] The following year he played Jie in Sook-Yin Lee's feature directorial debut Year of the Carnivore (2009),[external 6] and appeared, credited as "Luke Camillieri," as Mike in the horror film The Devil's Ground (2009).[external 7] He also guest-starred twice on Supernatural, as Jeb Dexter in a 2009 episode and, years later, as Josh May.[external 8]
In 2010, Camilleri was credited as Brewer in Caprica's "Unvanquished", an episode whose virtual-reality storyline follows Zoe Graystone's avatar as she battles a gang of armed users in the New Cap City simulation.[external 9] That same year, he played Dionysus in the feature film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,[external 10] a role promoted on the film's official character poster with the tagline "The Exterminator."[external 11] He also appeared as Luke in an episode of Fringe, as Bernard Stokes in Shattered, and as Rolly in the film Daydream Nation.[external 12]
Through 2011 and 2012, Camilleri continued in guest roles on Canadian and American television, including Alec Brownstein on Fairly Legal, Matthew on True Justice, Dr. Welke on Eureka, and Sean on the CBC series Arctic Air.[external 13] In 2011, he played Stephen, father of Geppetto, in the Once Upon a Time episode "That Still Small Voice."[external 14]
From 2014 to 2015, Camilleri held a recurring role as Andreas Vasilescu across 13 episodes of the Netflix horror series Hemlock Grove.[external 15] By that point he was represented by Lucas Talent Inc., which became the second-largest talent agency in Canada and the largest in Western Canada following an October 2014 merger with two other Vancouver agencies.[external 16] He also played Jordan Young in the western series Strange Empire (2014).[external 17]
Camilleri later had a recurring role as Gustav Sebald across three episodes of the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017–2018).[external 18]
From 2020 to 2023, Camilleri took guest and supporting roles including Warren Barnes in the television movie Garage Sale Mysteries: Searched & Seized, Jules Ventane in an episode of The Good Doctor, Dex Finnegan in the television movie Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Rob in Swan Song, Jack Jeffrey in Corrective Measures, Chris in Boy in the Walls, and George in the television movie Wedding Season.[external 19] From 2022 to 2024, he held a recurring role as Alexander "Alex" McSween, the historical Lincoln County War attorney, across 11 episodes of the MGM+ series Billy the Kid.[external 20] A cast guide for the series identified McSween as Tunstall's attorney and one of the central figures of the Lincoln County War.[external 21]
In 2025, Camilleri played Greg in Lynne Ramsay's film Die, My Love. Writing in Time, Stephanie Bai described Greg as a minor character and childhood friend of Robert Pattinson's character, noting that his appearance in the film signals Jackson's return to the community where he grew up.[commentary 3]
Stage work
editWhile still a student, Camilleri played Clarence in a Studio 58 production of Shakespeare's Richard III at Langara College in November 2007, directed by Scott Bellis and starring fellow Studio 58 alumnus Bob Frazer in the title role.[external 22] Reviewing the production for The Vancouver Sun, Peter Birnie wrote that Camilleri delivered Clarence's dream speech "with a little too much melodrama."[external 23]
In April 2008, Camilleri appeared as Brad, the ambitious assistant to advertising director Caroline Larion, in Michele Riml's play Poster Boys at the Arts Club Theatre's Granville Island Stage in Vancouver, alongside Lois Anderson and Scott Bellis.[external 24] Reviewing the production for The Province, Jerry Wasserman wrote that Camilleri did his best with what he called "a seriously underdeveloped character."[external 25]
