Daggit

The original Muffit, a daggit, runs with Boxey on Caprica during the Cylon sneak attack ^{(TOS: "Saga of a Star World")}.

A daggit is a canine-like animal used as a domesticated pet, watch animal, or tracker. No daggits survive the Cylon holocaust.

Boxey loses his daggit, Muffit, to the destruction on Caprica.

Original Series

Drone Facsimile

A robotic drone counterpart similar in appearance to a daggit named Muffit II is built by Dr. Wilker and presented to Boxey ^{(TOS: "Saga of a Star World")}.

Like a real daggit, the new Muffit proves its bravery and dedication to protecting humans during a dangerous fire aboard Galactica ^{(TOS: "Fire in Space")}.

• According to Encyclopedia Galactica (a non-canonical piece of merchandise published in 1979):

Since the mythical days of humanity on the planet Kobol, the Daggit has been man's friend and companion. A warm-blooded quadruped, related to such wild species as the Equellan lupus, the Daggit has been domesticated for thousands of yahren. Daggits were probably first used for hunting, but with the advance of civilization, they became beloved pets to humans. Each of the Colonies developed its own varieties of Daggits, so that by the time of the Final Destruction, over two thousand different breeds were officially recognized by the Intercolonial Kennel Association.

Galactica 1980

Dillon cautions the kids to be careful not to play with the daggits too fervently, for the daggits may "singe their circuits" ^{(1980: "Galactica Discovers Earth, Part I")}.

During the 30 yahren journey to Earth, multiple drone daggits are built and find their way throughout the Galactican Fleet. After discovering Earth, Lieutenant Dillon happens across children playing with a pair of mechanical daggits aboard the freighter that Troy and Dillon reside upon ^{(1980: "Galactica Discovers Earth, Part I")}.

Notes

• In the re-imagined series, dogs are simply called dogs and, unlike the original series, a number of these pets (e.g. Jake) survive the holocaust within the Fleet.
• The "daggit" Muffit would make an appearance in a Caprican children's book cover in Caprica.
