In preparation for ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'s'' future as a preserved relic after decommissioning, a museum/visitor center was constructed in the starboard [[flight pod]]. Massive canopies were installed over the fore and aft bays to contain an atmosphere, and a number of vehicles and educational displays relating to the first [[Cylon War]], including a [[Viper (TOS)|Viper Mark I]], an [[Raider (TOS)|old "flying wing" Raider]], a [[landram]], a [[Colonial Shuttle (TOS)|shuttle]], the armor of a [[:en:Cylon Centurion Model 0005|old-style Cylon Centurion]], and a complete squadron of 40 [[Viper (RDM)|Viper Mark II fighters]] were spread throughout the pressurized landing deck ([[Miniseries]], [[Razor]], [[Daybreak, Part II]]).
===Overview===

The '''Battlestar ''Galactica'' Museum''' is a military history museum featuring a collection of museum ships from the [[First Cylon War]], constructed in the starboard flight pod of the now retired battlestar ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''. The museum serves as an educational center and as a memorial to those who served during the War.
The starboard flight pod's conversion into a museum included the transformation of its [[Launch tubes (RDM)|launch tubes]] and launch station into a gift shop, rendering it unusable for flight operations.

A ceremonial flyby of ''Galactica's'' last remaining active Viper squadron and the decommissioning ceremony was held here just prior to the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies]].

The ''Galactica'' deck crew hurriedly restored some of the exhibits to working condition upon news of the attack. First priority was the Viper Mark II squadron, which was needed to defend the [[:en:Battlestar (RDM)|battlestar]] which had no ordnance and [[:en:Viper Mark VII|Viper Mark VII]]s vulnerable to Cylon [[Cylon computer virus|computer virus]]es ([[Miniseries]]).

What was left of the museum was heavily damaged several months later when a Cylon [[Heavy Raider]] crashed into the starboard flight pod and depressurized it. From here, a wave of [[:en:Cylon Centurion|Cylon Centurion]]s were able to board ''Galactica'', resulting in many casualties ([[Scattered]]).
The main part of the museum is featured on the former landing deck, which as now been pressurized with massive canopies installed over the pod's entryways. Later, a squadron of [[Raptor]]s, carrying crew members exposed to [[:en:Lymphocytic encephalitis|Lymphocytic encephalitis]] from a derelict Cylon [[:en:Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] landed in this flight pod to avoid exposing the rest of ''Galactica's'' population to the disease ([[:en:A Measure of Salvation|A Measure of Salvation]]). By this time, the starboard flight pod had not yet resumed normal operations and the enclosed canopy remained ([[:en:Maelstrom|Maelstrom]]).
The main exhibits featured many First War artifacts including a Mk I Viper, an older class battlestar, a [[Landram]], a [[Atmospheric_shuttle#.22Heavy.22_Shuttle|transport shuttle]], a squadron (40) of  [[Viper Mark II|Mk II Vipers]], a [[Cylon_Raider_(RDM)#Cylon_War-era_Raider|Cylon Raider]], a model of a [[Basestar_(RDM)#First_Variant|Cylon Basestar]], and a model of a [[Cylon_Centurion_Model_0005|Cylon Centurion]].

The spacial distortion from the jump, however, resulted in severe hull damage, destroying at least part of the museum ([[:en:Daybreak, Part II|Daybreak, Part II]]).

During the attacks on the Colonies, the ''Galactica'' deck crew hurriedly restored some of the exhibits to working condition upon receiving the news. First priority was the Viper Mark II squadron, which was needed to defend the [[Battlestar (RDM)|battlestar]], which had dumped the last of their munitions as part of the decommissioning ceremonies, and which had to fill in the gap after the ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> last Viper squadron was destroyed ([[Miniseries]]). After fleeing the Colonies, many of the pieces found full time use throughout the Fleet. The Vipers were kept for full time use in defending the fleet, and the landram was used for mining operations aboard ''[[Majahual]]'', and flight deck operations aboard ''Galactica'' ([[TRS]]: "[[Scar]]", "[[Escape Velocity]]").

==Notes==
What remained of the museum was heavily damaged, and ultimately destroyed as time wore on. The first hit came when an out of control [[Heavy Raider]] crashed into the pod, depressurizing it. Here, a handful of newer Centurions boarded the ship, marching over museum pieces as they forced their way into the ship and attacked the crew, resulting in many casualties ([[TRS]]: [[Scattered]]). The starboard flight pod was also used as a quarantine zone for anyone needing isolation, as was the case when many of ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> marines and pilots came into contact with Cylons carrying [[Lymphocytic encephalitis|Lymphocytic encephalitis]] ([[TRS]]: "[[A Measure of Salvation]]"). The final blow to the museum (and the flight pod that hosted it) came after a handful of Raptors utilized their [[FTL]] drives inside the pod, as they jumped to the Cylon [[The Colony|Colony]]. The distortions caused by the jumping ships blew a hole in the forward section of the pod, obliterating it. The surviving museum artifacts, if any, were later flown into a nearby star with the rest of the fleet following the battle ([[TRS]]: "[[Daybreak, Part II]]"). Despite utilizing the pod for limited purposes, and receiving Vipers from the battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', the starboard flight pod was never converted back for full time use.
*While the museum pieces are largely meant to be homages to the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original Series]], many of these items appear during the series in slightly altered and updated form:
**A [[landram]] appears in "[[Scar]]" and "[[Escape Velocity]]"
**Cylon War era [[Basestar (RDM)#Cylon War-era basestar|basestars]], [[Raider (RDM)#Cylon War-era Raider|Raiders]] and [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurions]] appear in "[[Razor]]"
**A [[Colonial Shuttle (TOS)|shuttle]] is docked at [[Armistice Station]] at the beginning of the Miniseries
*Because the Original Series and Re-imagined Series use highly different types of weapons and procedures, readers should not assume that these Original Series-style replicas in the museum imply that their Cylon War counterparts used the same Original Series technology.

*** Also located behind the model of the Original Series model Cylon Basestar is a large model of the Original Series Galactica. Sharp eyed viewers should be able to see it.

Overview

The Battlestar Galactica Museum is a military history museum featuring a collection of museum ships from the First Cylon War, constructed in the starboard flight pod of the now retired battlestar Galactica. The museum serves as an educational center and as a memorial to those who served during the War.

The main part of the museum is featured on the former landing deck, which as now been pressurized with massive canopies installed over the pod's entryways. The hangar deck and launch tubes below has been converted into a gift shop, and recreational area. A ceremonial flyby of Galactica's last remaining active Viper squadron and the decommissioning ceremony was held here just prior to the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies.

The main exhibits featured many First War artifacts including a Mk I Viper, an older class battlestar, a Landram, a transport shuttle, a squadron (40) of Mk II Vipers, a Cylon Raider, a model of a Cylon Basestar, and a model of a Cylon Centurion.

After the Fall

During the attacks on the Colonies, the Galactica deck crew hurriedly restored some of the exhibits to working condition upon receiving the news. First priority was the Viper Mark II squadron, which was needed to defend the battlestar, which had dumped the last of their munitions as part of the decommissioning ceremonies, and which had to fill in the gap after the Galactica's last Viper squadron was destroyed (Miniseries). After fleeing the Colonies, many of the pieces found full time use throughout the Fleet. The Vipers were kept for full time use in defending the fleet, and the landram was used for mining operations aboard Majahual, and flight deck operations aboard Galactica (TRS: "Scar", "Escape Velocity").

What remained of the museum was heavily damaged, and ultimately destroyed as time wore on. The first hit came when an out of control Heavy Raider crashed into the pod, depressurizing it. Here, a handful of newer Centurions boarded the ship, marching over museum pieces as they forced their way into the ship and attacked the crew, resulting in many casualties (TRS: Scattered). The starboard flight pod was also used as a quarantine zone for anyone needing isolation, as was the case when many of Galactica's marines and pilots came into contact with Cylons carrying Lymphocytic encephalitis (TRS: "A Measure of Salvation"). The final blow to the museum (and the flight pod that hosted it) came after a handful of Raptors utilized their FTL drives inside the pod, as they jumped to the Cylon Colony. The distortions caused by the jumping ships blew a hole in the forward section of the pod, obliterating it. The surviving museum artifacts, if any, were later flown into a nearby star with the rest of the fleet following the battle (TRS: "Daybreak, Part II"). Despite utilizing the pod for limited purposes, and receiving Vipers from the battlestar Pegasus, the starboard flight pod was never converted back for full time use.
