A model of a Cylon War-era Cylon Basestar on display in the defunct museum.

In preparation for Galactica's future as a preserved relic after decommissioning, a museum/visitor center is constructed in the starboard flight pod. Massive canopies are installed over the fore and aft bays to contain an atmosphere, and a number of vehicles and educational displays relating to the Cylon War, including a Viper Mk. I, an old "flying wing" Raider, a landram, a shuttle, a Cylon Centurion Model 0005, and a complete squadron of 40 Viper Mk. II fighters are spread throughout the pressurized landing deck.

The starboard flight pod's conversion into a museum includes the transformation of its launch tubes and launch station into a gift shop, rendering it unusable for flight operations.

A ceremonial flyby of Galactica's last remaining active Viper squadron and the decommissioning ceremony is held here just prior to the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies (Miniseries).

The Galactica deck crew hurriedly restores some of the exhibits to working condition upon news of the attack. First priority is the Viper Mk. II squadron, which is needed to defend the battlestar since she is has no ordnance for her weapons and most of her Mk. VII's are away on an intercept mission.

What is left of the museum is heavily damaged when a Cylon Heavy Raider crashes into it and depressurizes the pod (Scattered).

A squadron of Raptors, whose crew members are possibly infected from exposure to a derelict Cylon basestar, lands in this flight pod (A Measure of Salvation). By then starboard flight pod has not yet resumed normal operations, as the canopy over its aft bay is still visibly intact in late Season 3 episodes .

Notes

  • While the museum pieces are largely meant to be homages to the Original Series, many of these items appear during the series in slightly altered and updated form:
  • Because the Original Series and Re-imagined Series use highly different types of weapons and procedures, readers should not assume that these Original Series-style replicas in the museum infer that their Cylon War counterparts used the same Original Series technology.
