Wayne Charles Morton (born January 5, 1945) is an American actor, voice actor, and comedian who portrayed an uncredited Camp Aide in the Galactica 1980 episode "Spaceball," as identified through computer-aided facial recognition.

Career

Early Career and Television Work

Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Morton attended Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha before studying Theatre Arts and Music at Ripon College, graduating in 1967.[external 1] Following his graduation from Ripon College, Morton made his screen debut on television's Medical Center in 1970.[commentary 1]

Morton subsequently embarked on a career in television and voice acting that has spanned over forty years.[commentary 2] His television appearances have included M*A*S*H, The Dukes of Hazzard, Mork and Mindy, Happy Days, Private Benjamin, and Newhart.[commentary 3]

According to IMDb, Morton's television credits include appearances on The Twilight Zone (1985), T.J. Hooker (1982), Whiz Kids (1983-1984), AfterMASH (1984), Mama's Family (1986-1987), and New Monkees (1987).[external 2] More recent work includes appearances in Thin Ice (2011), In an Instant (2015), and the television movie The Neapolitan (2018).[external 3]

Morton is best known for his role on Mork & Mindy, where he appeared as Dr. Roland in the Season 2 episode "Mork's Health Hints."[external 4] He also appeared in the 2005 film Factotum.[external 5]

Voice Acting

Morton has had a substantial career as a voice actor in animation. He is particularly known for voicing Ben Grimm / The Thing in both Fred and Barney Meet the Thing (1979) and the standalone The Thing animated television series (1979).[external 6]

His voice work also includes Pontoffel Pock and His Magic Piano (1980), where he voiced the title character Pontoffel Pock,[external 7] and The Flintstones: Jogging Fever (1981), where he provided additional voices.[external 8]

Commercial Work

Morton served as a spokesman for Meineke muffler shops in television commercials.[commentary 4]

Theatre Career

In addition to his screen work, Morton has maintained a thriving theatre career throughout his professional life. He has appeared in various musicals on Broadway, in Las Vegas, and in Naples, Florida.[commentary 5] Morton worked extensively with legendary comedian Jack Benny and other notable entertainment figures.[commentary 6]

As of 2016, Morton has been an actor at Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, and also performs with TheatreZone in Florida.[external 9] His stage roles have included Arvide Abernathy in Guys and Dolls and Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.[external 10]

Personal Life

Morton has been married to Susan Morton since November 15, 1980.[external 11] As of 2019, he lives in North Fort Myers, Florida.[commentary 7]
