Cubit Related Images

I have tried from 4 different computers at 4 different locations to view the "Related Images" section towards the bottom of the page. Each time a 100 cubit note pops up for about 5 seconds and then it vanishes. After that I am unable to see any of the pics in this section. Why? Is there some special kind of trick I need to use? Please help?

I'll look into this. On the "to-do" list. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 22:53, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Change the site over...

Hey Joe, sorry if im being an annoyance, but I am concerned about the Battlestar Pegasus site:

"Mercer, the site is now up. However, I do have plans to change the website over, since it never really lifted off as well as I'd hoped. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 18:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC) "

I was wondering what you meant by this. I know I am one of the few users who uses it, but I have put alot of time and energy into the articles, ship files, character files, corporation files, and soon some technology files, AND my fanfiction as well. I would hate to see this go, and I am just wondering what your position on this is, and I just want to touch base with you on this.

Thanks,

Mercer

I've yet to finalize my plans / roadmap for the website, however none of the existing content will be adversely affected. So the content is safe, and there will always be a wiki component to it. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 23:38, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I understand now. I thought by "change the website over" you meant take it down or something, but it seems you mean to change aspects of it. If it does so happen that you wish to remove it, PLEASE contact me and let me know at drew.shoemaker@gmail.com

Again, thanks for all of your responses and clarification on this matter...

I might have screwed up

I think I might have screwed up.

I've just posted this new page after I failed to find anything specific to this officer by searching by his call sign: http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/%22Shooter%22

However, after some thought I looked again and but asked for his specific task instead. Then I found this: http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Unnamed_Galactica_and_Pegasus_crew_%28RDM%29#Launch_Officer

What should I do?

thanks Jeff

Don't worry much about it. I changed your article to redirect to the Launch Officer listing in the unnamed crew article. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 02:14, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Battlestar Pegasus Site Down...Again

Hello again, I have noticed the Battlestar Pegasus site is down again, I was just wondering why. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

can someone please add YR42 to the Numerology page entry for "42"?

since it has been established that "last year" on Caprica was YR41 (timestamp on interview with the bomber kid) and that "this year" is YR42 (masthead on newspaper), can someone please add this to the entry for "42" on the numerology page?

http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Numerology#42

thanks!

here's something i just posted on my FB:

and hey, look what i found for 42! http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Numerology#42 - i knew the reference to Douglas Adams' works (42 is, of course, the meaning of life, the universe, and everything - and it just so happens that 42 in decimal is 101010 in binary - HUH!!! lol!).

Jlwn111

[please note, i have a life-long connection to the number 111 and i just can't help but notice it jumping out at me in the binary representation of "life, the universe, and everything" - LOL!]

Just to let you know, you are more than welcome to make the change yourself. So feel free to be bold in doing so. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 03:50, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Season 4.0 limited release

Can someone help me with this?

It's been so long since I bought my dvds, and unfortunately lost track of where I was in the show. I am re watching it now, only to realize I purchased some kind of tin case for season 4.0. I have not been able to find any information about this anywhere on the internet - even on the list of dvd/blu-ray releases on this wiki site. Can someone tell me what I bought? I can upload a pic if need be.

nether_mage@hotmail.com

(sorry if there was a more appropriate place. I didn't know where else to post this.)

Feel free to sign up for the Battlestar Forum and post more on this there. Definitely interested in seeing what you bought. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 14:49, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

I ask again

I think my last question several months ago was overlooked. I would like to know what is to become of the Battlestar Pegasus site. I have put weeks of my time into writing a fan fiction on that website, not including all of the ship files, corporation files and other pages I have created. I hope this site does not have to go for good, but if it does, at least allow me to retrieve my works from it.

Replies are appreciated. Thanks.

--Mercer 13:33, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

I'd need to speak to Shane, who backed up all the files and database for the website when we relocated servers. It's not been a priority to put up the website for us, because of the things that have happened these past few months. (Shane's working on a corporate project, and I'm juggling several endeavors myself—all of which pay our bills.) I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, and I understand that you spent time working on everything... but there have been more pressing matters, such as the upkeep of the Wiki, which takes precedence over BSP, as the Wiki is our flagship site. We'll let you know when things are back up. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 13:57, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I am glad to hear it was backed up and I understand about the upkeep of the normal wiki, I just wanted to hear what was planned and make sure my work was safe at least.

Thanks for the feedback and I wish you luck. :)

Songs, music, so forth [...] from Bear's Blog

Should we upload any of the mp3's listed along Bear McCreary's blog and/or create articles on any of the songs, i.e. "Was Love" in the Caprica episode "Gravedancing"? On a somewhat related (or unrelated) note, I'm surprised there isn't an article listed for the song sung by the Tucana singers from "Saga of a Star World".--DrWho42 21:50, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if we could get away with uploading the MP3s from Bear's blog, although I have no problem with the creation of articles on any of the songs. Should the songs not warrant individual articles, we can always put them under the Arts and Literature of the Colonies or whatever article is appropriate. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 22:04, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Frakr in rough shape

Hi Joe, all, just wanted to make you aware that I'm getting a lot of "access denied" type errors on Wiki Frakr when I attempt to view various articles (Tracey Anne as an example).

(Cannot contact the database server: Access denied for user 'db85238_mw'@'%' to database 'db85238_bsgwiki_media_mw' (internal-db.s85238.gridserver.com))

Thanks. JubalHarshaw 16:35, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, Shane and I need to get in there and find some way to change the database, since Wiki Frakr and the Battlestar Wiki are now on two separate servers. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 14:59, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi--I clicked on the WikiFrakr link from the "New Caprica Detention Center" page and got sent to a malware site--one of those "your computer is infected with a virus, click here to download our bogus anti-virus" things. Miniseries Night 1

"The Cylons were created by the people of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol as a labor and military force. Approximately 52 years prior, the Cylons turned on their human creators and the Cylon War ensued."

Prior means before right? they couldnt turn on their creators 52 before they were created.

Probably could be better worded, the 52 years prior line is prior to the "Zero hour" that the Minseries is set in (at least, that's how I interperated it). --Typhoeus 22:21, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Printing

First of all, thank you so much for this great wiki.

My question is, would it be possible to include a printing script into the codes for a better printing solution?

Some pages have a chaotic design when printed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ergasto (talk • contribs).

Hi Ergasto! Thank you for the praise, as well as your question! To answer that question, we will be rolling out a better printer script into the wiki, so that it better formats the pages. Idea: Battlestar Wiki's Facebook directory?

Copying an idea from Wikipedia, anyone for having a "Facebook" directory like this: Wikipedia:Facebook directory? It could encourage users whose pages are simply marked "userpage" to personalize them. Then again, we already have a Facebook presence so this could just be needlessly redundant. Thoughts?--DrWho42 14:05, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Theatrical Movie

Back in 2009 it was reported that Bryan Singer was working on a theatrical movie, apparently based on his revival script from like a decade ago. I haven't heard any information since then, but as of June 2011 both Wiki and IMDb list it as a going concern. I was a little surprised you guys don't have a category for that, and I could't find any information in a search. Does anyone here know anything about this? Is it *really* still a going concern? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Republibot 3.0 (talk • contribs).

Rumors of a BSG movie are really nothing more than a bunch of people blowing hot air. I have it on very good authority that the movie will never happen, as frankly Glen Larson is viewed in a negative light and, therefore, no one wants to deal with him. (Glen Larson is the only one with the movie rights, and so would have more involvement in — and full creative control of — any movie production.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 10:18, 4 June 2011 (EDT)

Any plans for SSL

I find it bothering to login to this wiki from public hotspots and university campuses without SSL. Any plans for implementing SSL at least for logins. I know that it involves purchasing certificates and all (by the way I think some vendors are giving certificates for free.), but security a must in these times. And I don't see any means of reclaiming ones account, once its compromised. CylonU87 03:14, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

It's never been a priority to enable SSL since, really, there isn't vital information being transmitted to or from this wiki. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:21, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
I am specifically talking about authentication, passwords are being sent in plain text. Isn't that vital. CylonU87 10:08, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
What about just using a self signed certificate. True that it will show up a warning for everyone, but whoever really needs SSL can ignore the warning and continue. CylonU87 05:23, 11 August 2011 (EDT)

Lots of spamming activity.

Looking at recent changes its clearly visible that there has been a lot of specifically targeted spamming attack on this wiki. And due to that, the recent changes page is flooded with all the spam posts and then the blocks. It actually becomes difficult to see the changes of articles going on. Are there any particular attempts to stop this. CylonU87 05:33, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

Since anons are not allowed to edit pages, spammers are forced to create accounts to do their bidding. (Have you noticed the kind of usernames being created, they usually are names from common word lists and 2 to 4 digits of numbers appended, this probably means that this is not done manually, but is scripted. And this makes me believe that ReCapcha is broken.) I have also noticed that the chiefs here are pretty quick in blocking these spamming accounts, but isn't it a better idea to also block the IP from which the account was created, so they just wont continue with creating more accounts. The new users log is just filled with all these kinds of accounts. CylonU87 05:39, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
This is nothing new. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as banning the IP addresses — those are banned as well, in addition to usernames of the spammers — since they simply use another computer at another IP address. Also, many of the successful spammers are apparently actual users (i.e. human beings and not bots), and thus they circumvent the captchas by actually solving them. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:24, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
Well, you may be speaking based on your observation of the Check IP logs. But don't you think something needs to be done about this. This has been going on for years. And it looks like a targeted attack specifically at this wiki. CylonU87 05:22, 11 August 2011 (EDT)
Sad thing is that there is very little you can do about it. Fact of the matter is that this happens to all the major wikis. Wikipedia has always had this problem, same with Memory-Alpha, et al. There's actualy very little we can do to inhibit the activity — that is to say, without making it extremely difficult for new, actual users to lend their hand in contributing to the Wiki. Believe me when I say that we've talked about this internally for years, and really the only way to "stop" the manual spammers is to become draconian and extremely restrictive — which would harm ourselves in the long run, by losing people who would contribute. So, as long as we're on top of spammers, we're good. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:04, 11 August 2011 (EDT)

Props Wiki.

Whats the purpose of the props wiki. Why a separate wiki for props?, cant the English language wiki have these articles? CylonU87 06:54, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

There would be too many articles, frankly. It's part of the plan to document how the props were created, costumes were made, etc. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 10:11, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
Hmm. Looking at the number of articles in at the moment, there are only 142 pages in the article namespace. Then looking at the recent changes for the past 2 years, all I see is just spam. And the last decent edit was on August 9th, 2010. CylonU87 10:20, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
Just tagged 14 spam articles for deletion on the props wiki. They are in the Props:Category:Candidates for deletion page. CylonU87 10:41, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

Given that while they are published they're still considered fan fiction, should we take the content from the TOS alternate articles to form Fan fiction/ articles? How to add script names to the 'Original Series and Galactica 1980 Unproduced Episode List'

I would like to add the following script names to the 'Original Series and Galactica 1980 Unproduced Episode List' which appears at the bottom of the page of each unproduced episode entry. For the original series, add Saga of a Star World (early draft) and for Galactica 1980, add Galactica Discovers Earth (early draft), Earthquake, A Flight For Life, The Money Machine, and the Battle of Troy.

I've been trying to do this for awhile now without success. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Galactica1981 (talk • contribs).

OK, I fixed an error in the template that prevented easy editing. Tracking Page Views

Is is possible to make it so that the counter only counts a person once instead of everytime they visit a page? What does 'Purge' do?

What does the 'Purge' option at the top of the page do? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Galactica1981 (talk • contribs).

Basically, purge just calls the database (where the actual content is stored) and makes sure that the page is presenting the most recent version stored. Really, it's just a fancy way of hard refreshing a page by "purging" the server cache for the page in question. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 13:56, 14 September 2011 (EDT)
Basically, all you need to remember about purge is, when you make changes on a page and they don't show up even after saving the changes, hit purge and they will. CylonU87 03:49, 16 September 2011 (EDT)

Posting magazine articles

I have scans of magazine articles on Galactica that I would be interested in posting here. Would that be allowed? If so, how would I cite each page. I looked at the section on citing and can't find anything that I thought would work.

--Galactica1981 23:21, 15 September 2011 (EDT)

Hmm... Great question. Is there a way you can convert the magazine articles to PDF format? That would be the best way, to start. If you can't convert them, send them my way and I can do it for you. (Really simple, since I have Adobe Acrobat loaded up and I generate PDFs all the time for my various employers.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 13:09, 16 September 2011 (EDT)
My email is joe@frakmedia.net, by the way. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 13:11, 16 September 2011 (EDT)

Contents box in wrong place

For Galactica Discovers Earth (early draft), the contents box is showing underneath the main article instead of at the top of the page. Can this be corrected? Thanks.

--Galactica1981 14:04, 22 September 2011 (EDT)

When not notified, the TOC box is displayed juste above the first section. This page introduction is very huge. Thus, the only way to put the TOC box is to force its location with the tag __TOC__.--LIMAFOX76 16:51, 22 September 2011 (EDT)

Problem with Galactica 1980 portal page

On the Galactica 1980 portal, the link for Season 1 is too low on the page. It should be directly underneath the photo of Dr. Zee (similar to the link for Season 1 on the portal for the Original Series). Can someone correct this?

--Galactica1981 08:51, 2 October 2011 (EDT)

I've fixed it. :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:27, 2 October 2011 (EDT)

The Caprican/Serge's Twitter citations

For citing The Caprican's articles and Serge's tweets, should we adopt this format?

(CAP: "Graystone Computer Science Wing Coming To AU")

or

(The Caprican: "Graystone Computer Science Wing Coming To AU")

Thoughts?--DrWho42 03:56, 20 January 2012 (EST)

May be the second proposition as it's not directly part of the series, but from the website. --LIMAFOX76 04:05, 20 January 2012 (EST)
I prefer the second format, since it clearly tells me that the info is from an in universe newspaper, and not from an series episode or something. Also, I would like to say that all those articles from The Caprican look kind of weird when they are directly in the mainspace of the wiki. What about prefixing all those pages with something like "The Caprican:". Just an idea. -- CylonU87 02:38, 22 January 2012 (EST)
Wilco. And I see what you mean CylonU87, but I feel like it'll make those articles longer than they'd need to be i.e. The Caprican/Travel Agency Gets More Than It Bargained For After Group Marriage Wins Sweepstakes and the articles already speak for themselves. Thanks for the idea though.--DrWho42 11:36, 22 January 2012 (EST)
Double-citing would be unnecessary right? I.e. citing Serge's Twitter with a reference tag to the exact tweet on CapTV.--DrWho42 18:07, 23 January 2012 (EST)

Long Pages.

Some pages have become really long recently. See: Special:LongPages. I think some of them can be split to make them smaller.

I recommend splitting the ‎List of Deleted Scenes (TOS) into multiple articles as follows. For example, the deleted scenes related to episode Saga of a Star World will be under Saga of a Star World/Deleted Scenes. Just like how the Razor article was pruned to allow less advanced browsers to load it with little performance loss.

Then regarding the article called ‎Humor (1980), there is a lot of redundant information. For example the summaries at Humor (1980)#British writer Matthew Wharmby's Hilarious Galactica 1980 Episode Summaries are present in two locations. See: The Super Scouts, Part I#British writer Matthew Wharmby's Humorous Summary, Spaceball#British writer Matthew Wharmby's Humorous Summary and The Night the Cylons Landed, Part I#British writer Matthew Wharmby's Humorous Summary to know what I am talking about. Its pointless to have redundant text in two locations. It creates problems of information integrity when one of them is modified and the other isn't. I would recommend spiting the Humor (1980) article and moving the interviews to the Sources: namespace (see ).

And all these great contributions are by Galactica1981, I think someone (Joe) needs to explain him why adding redundant information in more than one place is a bad idea, so that he/she does not do it again. This user has been a great contributor, that's why.

So, Once we come to a consensus on what to do I can help make the changes. -- CylonU87 02:58, 22 January 2012 (EST)

I agree on all fronts (Galactica1981 is a great and valued contributor) but I kinda miss the point of the Humor articles themselves on the basis of What Battlestar Wiki is not (soapbox, personal web/image host). I could copy and paste every BSG fiver (short parody) from Five-Minute Voyager in that case but it would make for an awkwardly long article. I could see constructive articles written about the varying types/tones of humor between the Original and Re-imagined Series (I proposed an idea similar to this about four years ago), but some of the stuff on there would be better suited as an entry on References to the Original Series, i.e. the MAD Magazine parody, or References to Galactica 1980, as the filk band (Ookla the Mok) reference.
On the reviews, I'm fine with their being relegated to userspace but on the wiki itself I think it goes against the Battlestar Wiki's Neutral Point of View policy unless we start giving Reception sections to every article, i.e. linking to The A.V. Club, io9, or Locus Online.--DrWho42 12:02, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Kontera.

Is there some change to the anon/logged out users of the wiki. I see a white colored bar labeled Kontera at the bottom of every page. And also some random words get green colored double underlines, which show a popup thing on mouse over. Just wanted to know if this was for everyone or only for me. I don't remember seeing it anytime before. -- CylonU87 07:08, 1 February 2012 (EST)
