Personal Relationships

Family and Mentorship

edit source

In the interim yahrens following her transfer, Sheba becomes a motherly figure to Troy[2], including later in life when she suggests that having feelings for Dalton is natural, despite the age difference.[1] Troy considers Sheba "the closest thing he had had to a mother for nearly twenty yahren" after the death of his biological mother.[3]

Relationship with Apollo

edit source

Sheba and Apollo develop a deep romantic relationship over the yahrens, founded on "mutual admiration first, and affection second."[4] After surviving the Battle of Binary 13, Apollo proposes marriage to Sheba, stating "It's about time we got married," to which she agrees.[5] When informing her father of their engagement during the reunion with Pegasus, Cain appears surprised but does not immediately respond.[6]

Sheba notes that the celestial chamber, introduced in "The Hand of God," is one of her and Apollo's favorite places aboard Galactica.[7]

Military Service

Battle of Binary 13

edit source

In 7360, Major Sheba assists in the cleanup of Hephaestus following the terrorist bombing executed by Paris.[8] She plays an instrumental role in the subsequent battle against the Cylons near Binary 13[9], where she and Starbuck rescue Apollo from the damaged Hephaestus before it destroys the attacking basestar in a kamikaze maneuver.[7]

During this engagement, when Hephaestus breaks formation to intercept the Cylon basestar, Sheba recognizes Apollo is aboard and coordinates with Athena to protect the vessel. She leads a squadron including Troy, Dalton, Boomer, and Jolly to defend the Forge ship from Raider attacks.[10]

Capture by the Chitain

edit source

During reconnaissance operations in the Xerik system following the reunion with Pegasus, Sheba's Viper experiences mysterious power failure and crashes. She is subsequently captured by the Chitain, a hostile alien species inhabiting the system.[11]

During her captivity, Sheba endures harsh physical interrogation and torture at the hands of Tcharken and other Chitain interrogators. She is held in chains in a cell, becoming "pale and emaciated, with dark hollows beneath her eyes," her uniform reduced to "tattered rags" with "animal bites" marking her exposed limbs.[11]

In an earlier torture session, Sheba experiences extreme suffering in what appears to be an ice cave, with "a long tube that snaked from a gash in her abdomen into a crevice in the ice wall," surrounded by "a slick, frozen surface made by a frighteningly large amount of what used to be her blood."[12] She prays to the Lords of Kobol for deliverance while enduring this ordeal.[12]

Apollo, guided by the humanoid slave Aske, eventually rescues her from the Chitain stronghold. Despite her weakened state, she insists on walking rather than being carried, stating "I want to walk. Just be ready to catch me if I fall," to which Apollo responds, "Always. And forever."[13]

Later Adventures on Paradis

edit source

During the fleet's time at Paradis, Sheba crash-lands her Viper after another mysterious power failure. She awakens to find a native Gamon woman who helps her, eventually leading her through caves to reunite with Troy, Dalton, Trays, and Rhaya, who had also experienced similar crashes. The group discovers metal fragments suggesting advanced technology was responsible for their Vipers' failures.[14]

Political Career

edit source

Following the Battle of Binary 13 and the death of Ambassador Puck, Sheba is unanimously elected to the Quorum of Twelve as Scorpius' representative. President Tigh announces her appointment, describing her as "one of the most courageous Warriors in our history, the offspring of a Warrior, a commander, whose exploits are near legendary."[15]

Her mother was from Scorpius, while her father Cain hailed from Gemini, qualifying her for the Scorpius seat. The appointment comes as a complete surprise to Sheba, who accepts the position after embracing both Apollo and Troy.[15]

As a Quorum member, Sheba participates in critical fleet governance during the discovery of Poseidon and the subsequent challenges facing the Colonial fleet. She maintains an empty seat during initial sessions following her disappearance in the Xerik system, with the Quorum voting to keep her position open pending further developments rather than immediately seeking a replacement.[16]
