A Cylon attack occurred at the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards during the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. The shipyards were hit with several nuclear weapons and attacked by several Cylon Raider squadrons . Five Colonial Fleet ships, including two battlestars, were destroyed instantly.

Pegasus was dry docked at the shipyards when the attack occured, having been scheduled to undergo a three month systems overhaul. The ship had all computer networks taken off-line in preparation for said overhaul, and was largely unaffected by Cylon infiltration of the Command Navigation Program; only the defense grid and navigational computer were compromised.

Pegasus was struck by multiple Cylon batteries during the attack. Damage was severe enough to initiate an explosion of fuel and ordinance on the hangar decks, and cause 700 casualties.

With no defensive options, and destruction imminent, Admiral Cain ordered the CIC crew to activate the FTL system and engage in a blind jump: "Wherever. Anywhere. Just jump", Cain recalled to Commander Adama and President Laura Roslin in a conversation shortly after Galactica encountered her battlestar months later. The blind jump was successful in that Pegasus escaped both the Cylon attack and the chance of colliding with celestial bodies. Additionally, Pegasus's escape was aided by an electro-magnetic pulse that blinded the Cylon DRADIS and made them oblivious to the battlestars survival.

Cain retrieved as many civilian and military staff from the shipyard as she could, and into the relative safety of her battlestar.

Notes

  • The electro-magnetic pulse mentioned in the article is not a true EMP. See the EMP article for further details.
