Talk:The Battlestar Galactica Drinking Game/Archive 1

Discussion page of The Battlestar Galactica Drinking Game/Archive 1

I see no valid reason to delete this page. — Lestatdelc 21:21, 4 December 2005 (EST)

Have a little fun, Ricimer. --April Arcus 23:58, 4 December 2005 (EST)

Yeah, man. I quite enjoyed the examples of Helo being an idiot. The only beef I'd give any creedence to would be if someone else had an equally valid, but mutually exclusive Battlestar Galactica Drinking Game, then I'd say we should call this one "A Battlestar Galactica Drinking Game" or just make a page called "Battlestar Galactica Drinking Games". However, that's not a concern, yet, is it? And it's not as if the only purpose of this list of things is to promote alcoholism or drunkeness... This is a tongue-in-cheek way of noting the over-used elements in Battlestar. It might even be considered, gasp, thoughtful. --Day 00:17, 5 December 2005 (EST)

I said no. I am putting my foot down. The Toaster page was bad enough. This page should be deleted. It's place is not here. Joe, please chime in on this one. --Ricimer 02:05, 5 December 2005 (EST)

I need to think about it before making a definite decision... I thought about it and the page, despite its present humor, is actually a valid article on recurring plot points and issues in BSG. -- Joe Beaudoin 11:28, 5 December 2005 (EST)
To comment more seriously: I enjoy the fact that we don't have to be deathly serious here all the time, and have a few places to blow off a little steam. These areas are all well-segregated from the main content of the wikI. I'm sorry that the very existence of these pages seems to trouble Ricimer so deeply, but I must point out that users who do not find them amusing are entirely free to ignore them. --April Arcus 03:04, 5 December 2005 (EST)
While some of the items are a tad off-color, they aren't vile or patently offensive. (If the subject matter was truly offensive, it would not have even aired). We can still use a little levity, so long as its properly segregated in the Silly Pages category. I would like the "source" of this game, however, even if its just an internet link. I, for one, think its suitably funny. I second Peter on this. --Spencerian 08:49, 5 December 2005 (EST)
I think it's suitably funny as a piece of trivia arrising out of the BSG fandom. Perhaps we could start a section on non-canonical trivia, in order to keep things in their right place. I know there are the "silly" pages but the drinking game is something created by fans outside of the wiki, not unlike fanfiction and 3D meshes. --Mason 09:58, 5 December 2005 (EST)
I just reread it again and tears came from my eyes when I hit the Helo stuff. ("Territory issues..." HAH!) It's not just the old "Hi, Bob" drinking game of The Bob Newhart Show working here; Mason hit it on the nose that this does point out what few elemental contrivances in the show are getting a bit overused. This is a good place for us to point these out, as I just did. If nothing else, we can rename this to "Overused Character and Plot Elements" (with the current article name as the subtitle). --Spencerian 10:20, 5 December 2005 (EST)
There is no source, FYI. This was just me. --April Arcus 12:04, 5 December 2005 (EST)
Okie-dokie. We can credit Peter and perhaps Jack (Daniels) or Old Grandad for the interesting article... :) You can blame me and Starbuck (the coffee, not the pilot) for my contributions. --Spencerian 13:55, 5 December 2005 (EST)

I like what Mason said --Ricimer 12:53, 5 December 2005 (EST)

We should retitle this, "Col. Tigh's Battlestar Galactica Drinking Game". Philwelch 18:10, 9 December 2005 (EST)

Indeed. But I find it a bit daunting. I suspect I would die if I followed every rule to the letter. -- Cmr

Can we add to this? One that I'd like to include is "Billy and Dee stare at each other like two teenagers but never actually do anything." --Ltcrashdown 20:24, 1 January 2006 (EST)

Well, this is a wiki. Feel free to add it, man. --Day 20:41, 1 January 2006 (EST)

Cross-cuts[edit]

WHat's this mean? Repeatedly cutting back and frother between two concurrent scenes? IN other words, is this a reference to the "Assasination Planning Scene" in Ressurection Ship pt.1? If so, I know we've seen this a few times before as well. I just can't recall which episode(s). --Day 03:22, 7 January 2006 (EST)

Final scene of "Pegasus" stands out.--Ricimer 03:25, 7 January 2006 (EST)

Baby Killing Adama?[edit]

"...someone kills a baby.

   * Adama (Scattered)"

When did Adama kill a baby? --PhoenixHacker 19:38, 16 January 2006 (EST)

Adama himself didn't kill a baby, per se; it was a dream sequence in "Scattered". To be more precise, the event occured in Gaius' dream sequence on Kobol. During the sequence, the crashed Raptor and its occupants were rescued. Adama talks to Gaius, asking him "Is this the future?" (or some such) and then takes the baby and drowns it in a nearby body of water. -- Joe Beaudoin 19:42, 16 January 2006 (EST)
Its a a scene that's become the subject of several humourous You're The Man Now Dog pages, including this one -- Kahran 16:58, 26 January 2006 (EST)

Sillyness[edit]

I'm worried that the vast majority of points on this page don't appear to be remotely funny. I think there should be some minimal level of wit or irony required to remain on the drinking game. --April Arcus 17:30, 19 February 2006 (EST)

Agreed. In reference to the past bunch of edits, Im just trying to make it more readable by categorizing. Kkimball 17:33, 19 February 2006 (EST)

To break up the monotony of text here, would anyone care to post pictures of various characters drinking. There should be plenty... --Spencerian 10:22, 29 May 2006 (CDT)

Resistance (episode)[edit]

Needs fixing. No time for this silly page. To much of it. --Shane (T - C - E) 18:47, 13 June 2006 (CDT)

Recursion[edit]

It seems Saul Tigh would end up in a nasty infinite loop if he started this game... --Steelviper 12:12, 15 June 2006 (CDT)

Hell, his alcoholism feeds into itself so badly, his drink glass is practically a TARDIS. Or cornicopia, to keep the endless imbibing metaphor. --Spencerian 12:20, 15 June 2006 (CDT)

Ellen, Saul Pic[edit]

There've been a couple of edits to the image, so I thought I'd bring it up for dicussion. S&C stipulate that we should let user preferences control image width. In an eddort to allow this, I changed the caption-less image into a thumnail so that the user prefs would kick in. However, it appears some people would rather not have a thumb, but simply a floating pic. I would like to have a thumb, so that we can play nicely with S&C. I'm interested to hear other points of view. --Day (Talk - Admin) 21:10, 3 July 2006 (CDT)

Mispelling Roslin's name[edit]

I agree Mercifull, it's not something you can play along with and I guess shouldn't be here. Happens FRAKKING OFTEN though! At our wits end on the messageboards..."Roslyn", "Rosalin", "Roslan" yikes. Just respond to these with "R-O-S-L-I-N"! :) --The Merovingian (C - E) 15:23, 6 August 2006 (CDT)

But its kind of fandom brining in off-wiki stuff. It doesnt need it and takes the humor out --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 16:34, 6 August 2006 (CDT)
Oh no, I mean I agreed, I was just chatting about it here on talk. --The Merovingian (C - E) 17:11, 6 August 2006 (CDT)

More Photos Anyone?[edit]

Hey, so while going wiki last night after watching the season 3 premier, I put a bunch of edits into the page including a few additions, reworking a lot of the organization, and removing some of the non-funny items. It occurs to me, though, that although the Saul and Ellen picture is great, this is a silly page and should have more photos. Surely, some folks have captured some images of some of this silliness in action, right? I don't think anyone would object to some images being slapped in on the right side, maybe 1 or 2 per page, so please feel free to get some Starbuck kissing, Starbuck punching, Saul commanding (which means badly), Six beating Baltar, etc. photos up there. Agree? - Keithustus 12:39, 7 October 2006 (CDT)

This could still use some more pics, I think. They help illustrate the concepts, and the captions crack me up. --Steelviper 12:01, 9 February 2007 (CST)
An excellent idea. I'll update when and where I can. --Spencerian 12:08, 9 February 2007 (CST)
Speaking of captions, what do you guys think of my caption on the Cloud Nine pic? --BklynBruzer 21:22, 9 February 2007 (CST)

Edit war[edit]

I've had with adding certain passages back with a somewhat juvenile "lighten up" comment now. That's happened two times now. I don't find the Cylon sex section particularly funny, but I don't see why the gang rape needs to be mentioned there. The others I could do with.

This is also clearly a case of assumed article ownership. Not everyone agrees with a particular vision on how this should look or even just certain phrasings, but that's no reason to just revert it all the time without any real discussion. Reversion also happened with the totally unfunny mention of Starbuck's and Ellen Tigh's deaths. At least that stayed out after that. --Serenity 18:11, 8 May 2007 (CDT)

I personally find the gang rape reference to be in bad taste, and should be removed. The consensual stuff, yes, but sexual abuse is not humorous and references to it in this article should be removed on sight. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:07, 8 May 2007 (CDT)
Concur with Joe, its not something to be made fun of. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:06, 9 May 2007 (CDT)
I agree that it's kind of disgusting to joke about the gang rape thing, but that doesn't justify removing an entire section, like I explained in my edit summary. The remover should just have removed the gang rape bullet point, and leave the rest intact. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:41, 9 May 2007 (CDT)
Right, but to be honest, I don't see the funny. Some males have sex with Cylons. So what? So do some of the females, like Ellen Tigh, Starbuck (Anders and imaginary Leoben), or Boomer (even if she's a Cylon herself). Why is that not funny? Also, with Thorne there is still a rape reference in it, but at least that happens on screen, making it more useful for a drinking game.
Trick question: what about Anders and Foster? hehe —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Serenity (talk • contribs).
As for the edit war bit, I feel no ownership. The reason I put the gang rape reference back in is that I thought it was kind of funny, and I felt that the other guy (DrBat, I think it was) was exhibiting ownership. If the consensus is to keep it out, then it's out and I won't put it back. --BklynBruzer 18:12, 9 May 2007 (CDT)
Silly pages normally have a hidden message that outlines something. In this article's case, it's repetition of particular plot devices or situations that may become stale (CIC bursting into applause is a good one, or Helo's stubborness). Nothing on an article should reach a level of distaste, however, and I've never found that particular section (which involves several men in one collective incident) useful, as gang rape in the show has not been implied or repeated other than that instance. For that reason, the section should not be added again. --Spencerian 11:25, 10 May 2007 (CDT)
I agree. It is a fact, though, that Cylons have been involved in more than half of the sex shown on the show. Maybe there is a way to write this paragraph less offensively? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:37, 10 May 2007 (CDT)
Maybe turn it around? Instead of humans having sex with Cylons, making it "A Cylon has sex with someone"? That can then include both genders. From a repetition standpoint that might also be more noteworthy. --Serenity 11:46, 10 May 2007 (CDT)
Sounds good to me. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:02, 10 May 2007 (CDT)
