Sergeant Donald Perry is a young man selected as a candidate pilot (nugget) for Viper training under Lieutenant Thrace, and is given the callsign "Chuckles".
Because he had some flying experience as a boonie jumper, Perry is selected from relative obscurity to become one of Galactica's first intake of trainee pilots after 13 experienced pilots are killed in a freak accident (TRS: "Act of Contrition").
Once on Galactica he finds himself commanded by Kara Thrace, and forms friendships with fellow nugget pilots Brendan Costanza and Louanne Katraine.
Thrown into immediately flying Vipers because of the absence of flight simulators, none of the nuggets perform particularly well. This leads Thrace to wash out the entire class, but she reverses herself on orders from Commander Adama.
Perry is selected to fly Viper 4267 in with Lee "Apollo" Adama during a raid on a Cylon tylium refinery as part of Strike Force Two. He is killed during the operation when an anti-aircraft bullet pierces both his Viper's cockpit and his flight suit (TRS: "The Hand of God").
Chuckles is later mentioned during a conversation between Captains Adama and Thrace about the pilots who have died, and is included in Thrace's toast to fallen comrades before the pilots in the rec room (TRS: "Scar").
Notes
- After Lee Adama's defection to the Laura Roslin faction, Commander Adama considers a pilot named Perry to replace him as CAG, before ultimately settling on George Birch. Because of his death in "The Hand of God," the "Perry" mentioned in "Home, Part I" has to be a different pilot altogether.
- Perry's first name and final rank at time of death are derived from this high-resolution screenshot from "The Hand of God," which matches with his much clearer nameplate from the production.

Lieutenant Olin Perry is a Viper pilot on Galactica.
Perry was born in Balmorin on Caprica where he enlisted. Prior to serving aboard Galactica, he had served on Battlestars Defender and Serenader.
After Lee Adama's defection to the Laura Roslin faction, Commander William Adama and Colonel Saul Tigh considered Lieutenant Perry to replace him as CAG, before ultimately settling on George Birch (TRS: "Home, Part I").

Perry is a Landing Signal Officer aboard the battlestar Galactica during the 10th year of the First Cylon War, circa 42 BCH (58YR).
Perry serves as the LSO responsible for coordinating aircraft launches and recoveries from Galactica's flight deck. He maintains wireless contact with departing pilots, including William Adama and Coker Fasjovik when they launch in Raptor 909 for their mission.[1]
Perry demonstrates a casual, friendly relationship with the aircrew, particularly with the experienced ECO Coker Fasjovik. When clearing the Raptor for departure, Perry requests that the crew "bring us back a decent bottle" from their destination, showing the informal camaraderie common among flight deck personnel.[2] Fasjovik responds with characteristic humor, promising to bring back alcohol "to keep you from mooching off me," indicating an ongoing friendly dynamic between the LSO and flight crews.[3]
