Alana Husband (born October 21, 1984) is a Barbadian-born Canadian actress, stunt performer, and photographer. She is known for her role as Nurse Sashon in the Battlestar Galactica episode "Faith", as well as for her work in numerous other film and television productions.

Career

Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, Husband moved to Canada at a young age. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in drama, from the University of Calgary. She began her career at age 16 and established herself in both acting and stunt work in the Vancouver film and television industry.

Husband's dual career was built on a strong athletic foundation. Her background in gymnastics, dancing, and various sports made her a natural for stunt work. However, she consistently prioritized acting. In a 2014 interview, she stated, "I always wanted to be an actor first and a stunt person second." She elaborated on her approach to character work in a 2010 interview, explaining, "I try to make it as real as possible... I try to find the reality in it and what I can bring of myself to the character." She contrasted the two disciplines by noting, "With stunts, you have to be very precise... with acting, you can be a little bit more free."

Her early television appearances included roles in Dark Angel, The Dead Zone, and UPN's attempted revival of The Twilight Zone. She also appeared in the MTV production Monster Island and had roles in Jeremiah, The L Word, and the pilot episode of House.

Science Fiction Television

Husband became a familiar face in science fiction television, a genre she particularly enjoyed. "I love sci-fi," she said, "because you get to play and use your imagination." She worked on multiple Stargate franchise productions, including Stargate Atlantis and a recurring role as the hallucinated character "Gloria Rush" in Stargate Universe. Husband originally auditioned for the role of Camile Wray, but the producers brought her back to read for Gloria, who she described as Dr. Nicholas Rush's "moral compass." She praised her co-star Robert Carlyle as "lovely... so professional and so giving."

Her other genre appearances included Blade: The Series, where she portrayed Blade's mother, Psych, and Killer Instinct.

Intelligence

One of Husband's most substantial television roles was in the CBC series Intelligence, where she portrayed Alison, also known as "Sweet," the girlfriend of John Cassini's character Ronnie Delmonico. The character was described as the "top dog at the club" who "runs Ronnie" and "isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to get what she wants." Husband initially turned down the role due to concerns about nudity, but was later offered the part after the requirement was removed. She expressed great enthusiasm for working with series creator Chris Haddock and being part of a quality Canadian production.

Film Work

Husband's film work includes stunt performances in major productions like X2: X-Men United (2003) and acting roles in the comedy Hot Rod (2007) and the thriller While She Was Out (2008), starring Kim Basinger.
