Cities of man aflame after the Cylons' final attack on the Colonies (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 3 #3).

The Twelve Colonies of Man are the homeworlds of the Colonials, who have been at war with the Cylon Empire for a thousand yahren.

In an alternate reality, the last president of the Quorum of Twelve, Adama, is lead to betrayal of the human race by Baltar. In the devastating Battle of Cimtar, every battlestar is destroyed, and humanity is mostly purged from the Colonies leaving great cities, such as those of Caprica, in ruins (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #3).

Known survivors congregate into one of two groups, either the Colonial Resistance lead by Adama or a pirate group with a lone, anomalous battlestar previously unaccounted for lead by Starbuck (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #3 & #4)

These two forces later conjoin their efforts following the influence of temporally displaced Warriors, Apollo and Starbuck, and fight to regain their destroyed homeworlds (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #5).
