The Characters Portal

The Three Casts From Each of the 3 Series

Characters make the story interesting in all three of the Battlestar Galactica series shows. Each series has no shortage of characters to make every show that has been produced interesting and dynamic. Dramatic changes have been made to the characters of the Original Series for the Re-imagined Series. Boomer in the original Battlestar Galactica was a black man, whereas Boomer in the Re-imagined Series is an Asian woman (and a Cylon). Religion, sexuality, and even nationality are now part of each characters' motives, making Galactica a place that is influenced by real-life situations.

Margaret Edmondson

Lt. Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson is a female Raptor ECO aboard battlestar Galactica, and due to manpower shortages often moonlights as a Raptor pilot. Racetrack tends to have a dark, fairly cynical attitude after the Cylon attack. Racetrack accompanied Galactica-Sharon on a mission to destroy a Cylon Basestar in orbit of Kobol by sneaking inside with a nuclear warhead, and soon after witnessed Boomer's attempted assasination of Commander William Adama. Racetrack has unresolved tensions with fellow Raptor ECO Karl "Helo" Agathon. Later, it was Racetrack who discovered the habitable planet New Caprica, when her Raptor strayed from a rescue mission.

Did you know...

Sharon Valerii

...That actress Grace Park, who currently plays Sharon "Boomer" Valerii, originally auditioned for the role of Dualla, and Kara "Starbuck" Thrace? Park originally tried out for Dualla and didn't get the role, but director Michael Rymer liked her performance, and asked her to return and audition for the role of none other than Starbuck. Park was actually one of two finalists for the role, the other being Katee Sackhoff, who ultimately got to be Starbuck.

However, Rymer and the writing team were still so impressed with her that they asked her to join the cast to play Boomer. Grace Park actually never gave an audition for the role of Boomer, because she had already done ones for Dualla and Starbuck and the production team already knew her acting range, but as a result she didn't actually sit down and read the parts of the Miniseries script containing Boomer until after she was cast in the role, so she was surprised by Boomer's revelation as a Cylon at the end.

Quotes

"History is full of examples of leaders who have come from the most humble beginnings, and have risen to meet the challenge posed by cataclysmic events. It's very easy to be sitting there in your armchairs ... criticize Laura Roslin for the tough decisions that she has to make every day - especially if you're someone like Tom Zarek, who's never shouldered any real responsibility in your life. To be fair to Tom, how could he? He's been in prison for the last twenty years. Now that he's had a drastic personality makeover, he's posing like he's the savior to all your ills! I think you all have a short memory, really. ... What I have to say is, we must survive, and we will survive. And we will do so through the values that have made our colonies great: courage, truth, justice, liberty, with a firm and deep resolve to make tomorrow better, not just for ourselves, but for our children."
--Gaius Baltar to James McManus (Colonial Day)
