Lang Bar

Greatfull Idea from MemoryAlpha. Check out BW:MAIN for the two examples. Shane (T - C - E) 18:10, 20 December 2006 (CST)

The flags do add some color. I like the flags in the main header box, in that we get the same effect without losing vertical space. --Steelviper 19:38, 20 December 2006 (CST)

Universal HD Season 3 Premiere

Hey, I read here [1] that Universal HD will premiere Season 3 on January 7th. I don't know if it's a reliable source, but I know some of you might be able to find the official info better than I do, so I just wanted to mention it since we always put when episodes have their first run on HD. Damn, I can't wait to see the screencaps! --Sauron18 02:46, 21 December 2006 (CST)

Considering that it airs in the UK in HD on the 9th its highly likely that you yanks will demand to have it in HD before us. If I was going to put money on it i'd say the rumors are correct. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 04:19, 21 December 2006 (CST)
Well I'm glad that either way we'll be getting High Resolution Screencaps soon....by all that is good, I salivate at the thought of them (No, not literally). Anyways, I think it is, because the other day I heard was the 27th, but that's not a Sunday, while the 7th is, so my bet is on that. --Sauron18 04:34, 21 December 2006 (CST)
I have a brand new Dish Network HD-DVR. I have done some research and it seems like it gonna cost me $500 to $700 to do screen caps. Am I missing something cheaper? I found this, but since it uses a PCIe slot I would have to upgrade MB, cpu, memory to make it work. Thanks for any advice. --FrankieG 17:44, 1 February 2007 (CST)

False News

The 6-page online EW article on season 3.5 is actually about 3.0 (it even says battlestar returns fridasy at 9, October) Recommend it is removed for obvious reasons Jxh487 17:55, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Agreed. Consider it done. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 18:10, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Strong Season 4 Rumor

Koenigrules is reporting on Ragnar Anchorage that BSG will be renewed for at 13 episodes and a 2-hour movie between seasons, possibly direct to DVD. Expect an announcement soon because the "drop-dead" date on the actors' contracts is Feb. 18. --FrankieG 19:14, 10 February 2007 (CST)

A 2-hour movie followed by 13 episodes? Déjà vu, anyone? --Catrope 13:38, 11 February 2007 (CST)

A BSG Set Visit

Someone posted this set visit with some technical details and photos which may be of some use for the wiki, especially info about CIC. --FrankieG 22:19, 9 March 2007 (CST)

Very cool. Definitely useful stuff here. Non related to the whole "what the sets look like thing", I find the whole RFK thing interesting, and it should be noted in EJO's article. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 23:30, 9 March 2007 (CST)
Awesome article. There is really some nice wiki stuff there. Like the CIC layout. Possibly the duty locker picture. But since when does CIC mean "COMMAND Information Center"? I thought the first C stood for "combat" (as in real life), that some other doors are really labeled as such. --Serenity 06:02, 10 March 2007 (CST)
TPTB changed the name, but not on some of the items from the miniseries set pieces. It should be noted on the CIC page. I heavily updated that page with stills from a QuickTime 3D view of the set, but there's now a manual shown in one shot that shows a breakdown of the engineering and navigation areas. Don't read too deeply in that same diagram though; the filler text is from a Space Shuttle launch procedure. I didn't see a whole lot of technical stuff, but there's a joyous amount of behind the scenes stuff that can help in filling those pages. -Spencerian 07:12, 10 March 2007 (CST)

Quote of Today (5th May)

The quote of the day is incorrect in linking war to Cylon War. Rosilin was referring to the decisive victory the Cylons had just won, i.e. the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. OTW 13:19, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

Fixed. I just removed the link as it's not really necessary. --Serenity 14:01, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

QotD edit link

I'd like to add an Edit link for the Quote of the Day to the Main Page, but since it's locked (with good reason), I can't do it myself. Here's the edit that needs to be made:

Change:

<div class="plainlinks" align="right"><small>[[Battlestar Wiki:Quotes/Current Week|View quotes for the current week]]</small></div>

To:

<div class="plainlinks" align="right"><small>
{{#ifexist:Quotes:{{CURRENTMONTH}}_{{CURRENTDAY}}|[{{fullurl:Quotes:{{CURRENTMONTH}}_{{CURRENTDAY}}|action=edit}} Edit this quote] -
}}[[Battlestar Wiki:Quotes/Current Week|View quotes for the current week]]
</small></div>

For an existent quote, this renders:

And for a nonexistent one:

TIA --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:13, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

It would be no problem to add it, but you can just click on the BSG seal to the left of the "Quote of the Day" headline. I don't think that's too much work. --Serenity 14:16, 21 May 2007 (CDT)
Hmm, I never noticed that before. I think an edit link (or a v-d-e thingy like this) would still be better, as it's not clear to everyone that you have to click the image (it wasn't to me until you told me). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:24, 21 May 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, doesn't hurt. Joe just added it, so never mind. --Serenity 14:26, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

Memeber

There's a misspelling along the "Featured Site Project". Just to let you know. DrWho42 12:33, 30 May 2007 (CDT)

Fixed. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:08, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

Quotes proposal

Quote of the Day
Captain Apollo: Attention! Everybody listen to me! I want everyone to move quickly to the exits. That is an order.

Sire Uri: Stay where you are, I'M IN CHARGE HERE!
(Cylons attack)
Uri: Do what the man says, he's in charge.

My suggestion is that the edit function be moved into the title cell, it saves space slightly and (in my opinion) looks a bit neater. What do people think? Matthew 15:15, 15 June 2007 (CDT)

I rather like it, however the links in question should be right-aligned. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 19:57, 15 June 2007 (CDT)
On BW:MAIN it's like that. :) Shane (T - C - E) 20:30, 15 June 2007 (CDT)
Looks good to me, I'd say go for it. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 07:30, 16 June 2007 (CDT)
As it looks right now, it's fairly decent. To further clarify, I believe that the edit links should be flush to the right side of the cell. (As I see it now, it's just off-center in the cell.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 09:01, 16 June 2007 (CDT)

Google search plugin

I've written a Firefox search plugin that uses the Google search form on the Main Page (technically, it just uses the same params, but never mind that). Copy the text from User:Catrope/google.xml and paste it into your google.xml file (overwriting it). You can find google.xml in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins (Windows) or ~/.mozilla/firefox/{somenumber}/searchplugins (Linux/Unix). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 09:54, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

Now we've added "days to go" the next aired episode doesn't align properly (at least on my screen, Firefox, 1280x786) OTW 13:09, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

It's not just you. Catrope plzfix! kthx. --Serenity 13:12, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

Because you're good at this stuff ;) Though I see that it was Shane who really broke it... --Serenity 14:04, 17 August 2007 (CDT)
No problem ;) I just thought you blamed me because I came up with Template:Countdown. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:12, 17 August 2007 (CDT)
That might have been the case. I just assumed you added it to the main page as well. --Serenity 14:18, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

Comments on New Design

For those who have no clue, there is a new skin in town called "Battlestar". Based of the Eureka Wiki design, we migrated it over here to the BSG Wiki. To check it out change your skin preference to "Battlestar". Shane (T - C - E) 23:34, 22 September 2007 (CDT)

Something for me to do... I'll have to add new add zones for this skin, since the sidebar column is wider than the monobook-based skins to make the ads look better. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 01:05, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
Looks nice, but I'm gonna stick with bsgbook. Battlestar has the article/discussion/edit/history tabs underneath the page, which I find really annoying. But I guess taste differs. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 07:57, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
It's actually at the bottom and top. The design itself is nice (although it takes some getting used to), but it's terrible for widescreen. Only a small part of the screen in the middle is actually used for the article, leaving huge chunks of empty space at the sides. While that makes it easier to optimize an article's layout, it just looks bad. --Serenity 08:08, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
I'd have to agree on the widescreen part, it does waste a lot of space. I wonder if we shouldn't make a version of this that has a varying width. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 09:21, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
We could make a version that would be larger width. Right now on my laptop and the resolution is 1024 and it fits perfectly. :P Making different sizes is no problem, it's the sizes we should have. 1280x720 would be the other size I work on as it's more common for desktops -- it remove about 2/3 of the black on both sides. My desktop monitor supports 1900x1200 which would cut the black on the outside by half. However, I will only do that once I nail down the design elements. Shane (T - C - E) 12:06, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. We'd have the new skin (Battlestar), then we'd have a version for widescreen resolutions (Battlestar Widescreen). Obviously, once you iron out all the wrinkles in the skin, then work on the widescreen version. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:11, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
Also -- if anyone whats to suggest an images that should be in the rotation in the banner, please post it and myself and merciful will work on it :) Shane (T - C - E) 12:15, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
I don't hate it. I'll have to play with it a while to decide whether or not I choose to keep it. Also, I'm seeing half the BSG Wiki logo underneath the entire thing. Is anyone else getting this? --Slander 15:50, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
Have a screenshot? Also, what browser are you using? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:03, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
I was going to take one when I got home from work, but it looks fine on Firefox. At the office, I use IE. I'll see if I can't Picnik a screenshot tomorrow. I also don't see the character portraits on IE. --Slander 17:59, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
Hmm... I'll run some tests on a computer with IE and see what's up. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 19:17, 24 September 2007 (CDT)

IE 6.0

IE 6 errors.

Ok, I found two serious problems in IE 6. The ones that Slander was referring to. Also, the rotating character shows up... just way off where it's supposed to be, as the picture says. Shane'll need to work on this when he has the chance, before we can make it "official". -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 19:26, 24 September 2007 (CDT)

I composed a screenshot this morning, but you beat me to it! :D Photobucket isn't working for me today anyway. Aside from the IE issues, I've been enjoying the new skin a lot. --Slander 09:24, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Anyone try IE 7? Shane (T - C - E) 12:42, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
I IE 7 (Which I am using now) the only thing messed up is the character placement. IE 6 might be impossiable to fix since it's not being worked on anymore. I might have to recomment IE 7+ for the website. Shane (T - C - E) 12:52, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Unfortunately, in checking the server logs, a lot of our users still use that, erm, "browser". :-( -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:57, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Isn't there some Javascript-powered way that we can detect IE 6 and give it an IE6-fucked up version of the skin so it'll be rendered correctly? If not, we probably wanna stick with bsgbook as our default skin. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:06, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, I'm sure there is... Of course, if we can't fix it, then we'll obviously keep with bsgbook as the default. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 13:13, 25 September 2007 (CDT)

Minor issues regarding the new skin

There's a minor issue with the gallery feature in this skin. As seen by Viper (TOS)#Related images, the bottom cell in the second column isn't filled to the bottom like the other two that flank it. Slightly annoying, aesthetically speaking. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 12:36, 26 September 2007 (CDT)

We also need to replace the redirect image as well... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 20:50, 28 September 2007 (CDT)

Protection

I wanted to add some news to the merch section, but the Wiki is telling me the main page is protected with cascading on. Any ideas when we'll be able to edit it again? --Slander 09:43, 27 September 2007 (CDT)

I think cascade-protecting the Main Page was intended as a permanent measure (dunno for sure, though), so I guess you'll have to do it the old-fashioned way: put the news on the associated talk page and ask an admin to add it. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 10:56, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
Cascading will stay on, sorry. But the news should not be effected. I will look into that. Shane (T - C - E) 11:20, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
Actually, it should, as it's transcluded from a page that's in turn transcluded from the Main Page. Cascading protection also works deeply. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:52, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
Unprotecting CF News Service didn't help: it's still protected. Rather than cascading-protecting Main Page, we may want to just protect everything that needs protecting manually. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:31, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
On a side note, the cascading protection is actually pretty evil. For instance, it automatically protects the Quote of the Day (which should be editable) and Battlestar Wiki:News/Airdates. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:34, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
Cascading protection is horrible. Just protect the pages individually. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 15:51, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
I've gone ahead and removed the cascading protection; the Main Page and some components will be protected, of course, but besides that everything else that should be editable is editable. Lemme know if you have any problems. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 15:55, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
Should we protect the following?
I think that's pretty much it, the rest of the pages transcluded from Main Page (which is quite a lengthy list BTW) either don't need protection or are already protected. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 16:12, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
That looks about right to me. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:18, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
yep. The community section going to get an update before Razor. :) I am still debating which sites deserve it. :) Shane (T - C - E) 16:22, 27 September 2007 (CDT)
I'm thinking we may want to publicly debate that. Just a thought. :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:31, 27 September 2007 (CDT)

Thanks for looking into things, fellas. I'm probably going to be getting more active around here, so it's good to know what I can and cannot alter before attempting to do so. I'll probably just wikignome it. --Slander 21:37, 27 September 2007 (CDT)

You'll notice pretty quickly what you can't edit though: for protected pages, you'll see a "view source" tab rather than an "edit" tab. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 06:53, 28 September 2007 (CDT)

Aren't there three new YouTube videos for Razor?

When I looked at the announcement for the new Razor previews here on Battlestar Wiki, naturally I was excited.. So when I went to check them out on YouTube, I found that there were not two new videos, but three (or at least, that's how it seems to be)..

Check this out, these are the videos you linked to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnhSrBx79VQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bw_Z2VgFN0o

But this one seems to be new as well (and very exciting I might add):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e20Z8CsJBwg

This last one seems to be specifically about 'Razor flashbacks' that'll air during Flash Gordon..

--jarnomiedema 05:31, 2 October 2007 (CDT)

Yeah, that one is specifically to promote the Webisodes. Sure we can link to them all, but on the other hand we are not a news site. We document the show, but generally post only the most important stuff in the small news section. Or put something up when it hasn't been updated for a while. We often include information from news into spoiler articles as you see in the "Razor" or Season 4 articles, but you'll see that the latest "Razor" teasers aren't included in the episode article. I don't know how others feel about this, but I don't think it's really necessary. For our purpose, I think it's better to note stuff like the appearances of Kendra Shaw, Gina, Alastair Thorne or Jurgen Belzen than linking to the teasers for their own sake.
This is a case where it's easy to add another link (I'll do so), but don't expect to find every bit of news on the show here. --Serenity 05:42, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
Thanks, Serenity! I understand Battlestar Wiki's need to stick to the articles about the show and not so much about the promo's and other news information regarding the show itself, but I thought I'd point out this little fact. Thanks again.. --jarnomiedema 06:21, 3 October 2007 (CDT)
Thanks for pointing this out. Although we're not really a news site, we do have a news section, and we do appreciate it when people point us to trailers we haven't seen yet (and, of course, we link to the trailers in the article as well). Nogmaals bedankt! --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 07:07, 3 October 2007 (CDT)

Razor Flashbacks

The recent one available on SciFi pulse, is now on Youtube here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pvAhOH1zJlc, front page should probably include this for the benefit of international fans who can't watch it via pulse. :) --Sixu 23:24, 7 October 2007 (CDT)

Unfortunately, it's technically illegal and will probably be pulled by NBCU in a day, if not less. Same thing happened with the Resistance webisodes. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 00:50, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
It's basically "don't ask, don't tell". Everyone knows that people here download the regular episodes and webisodes - including some admins - but we shouldn't support it too openly. That mainly means no links. --Serenity 01:30, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
Ah, I totally understand that. It's so annoying for BSG fans that live outside the U.S. As for the policy of NBCU removing content from youtube, I'm sure you'll agree; is plain stupid. It is the internet after all, and where there is a will there is always way, so their efforts are rather pointless. Cheers for the feedback though guys, appreciate you taking the time to let me know. --Sixu 06:20, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
I don't really mind or complain. Sure the restrictions are annoying on the face of it, but as you said they are useless in practice. A few hours after the US airing, there are YouTube streams and even downloadable avi files available. Due to the time difference I need to wait until the next morning anyways. Sure it would be nice to watch the stuff on TV within a reasonable timeframe and with the original language track, but by now I got used to watch shows on the PC and possibly get the DVDs later. --Serenity 06:37, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
I don't really see why Sci Fi (or whoever holds copyright) would want to remove the Razor Flashbacks from YouTube: US citizens can also view them freely on SciFi.com. Regular episodes are different of course. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:44, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
I've never really gotten a good firm picture of why they're so aggressive, but the two main reasons that were impressed on me were the concept of "protecting their copyright" (that somehow if they allowed their material to be used willy-nilly it'd somehow set a precedent that would prevent them from having any real say in the future) and something to do with the unions/guilds (any use of the work of their people has to be properly credited and/or paid for). They can't be blind to what all goes on, so it seems like it's far more in the way of keeping a particular legal position or policy than effecting any sort of practical global(/non-US) prohibition. Unfortunately the types of people that could probably best explain it, NBCU lawyers, are likely to be tight-lipped as a matter of course anyway. There may be a blurb in the OC where Bradley Thompson mentions something about the (Resistance) webisodes. --Steelviper 09:26, 8 October 2007 (CDT)

Who agrees with me?

I think the best episode is "Tigh me up Tigh me down" because:

You get to see Lee crotch get rubbed by Ellen Tigh's foot. It is good stuff... has any one got a picture of it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pooh the hat (talk • contribs).
