He left Minnesota, moving to San Francisco and then L.A. where on both occasions he landed on-stage roles opposite Danny Glover. Soon after, Carl was cast as Marcus Peuree in the hit televeision series Cagney and Lacey, a role he continued to play for six years, bringing him steady work and recognition as a television actor.
