The New Life Process is a Cylon procedure used to experiment on and transform organic beings into Cylon drones, including Centurions.
Overview
editThe New Life Process is a Cylon experiment designed to study organic lifeforms and to create new Cylon agents. The process involves the use of advanced technology to alter the subject's mind and body, effectively turning them into a Cylon-controlled entity. The process is overseen by the Acamaran, Taron, who communes with their "deity," an IL-series Cylon named Volahd.[1]
Process
editThe New Life Process is carried out in a Cylon facility on Salis. Subjects are placed in stasis tubes, where they are subjected to a series of experiments. The process appears to be both physical and mental, as it not only alters the subject's body but also erases their memories and personality. The ultimate goal of the process is to create a new form of Cylon, one that is a hybrid of organic and mechanical components.[2]
The process is not always successful, and many Acmarans are killed or left in a vegetative state. Averna, a rebel Acmaran, reveals that many of her people have disappeared after being subjected to the New Life Process. She is one of the few who has managed to escape the process and retain her identity ((Comics: The Law of Volahd, Part 1)).[3]
Similar Processes
editThe Cylon experimentation with combining organic and mechanical elements is a recurring theme. In a later event, the Cylons capture Colonial pilot Roz and integrate his neural network into a new, advanced Centurion. This new Centurion is able to anticipate human tactics and emotions, making it a formidable foe ((Comics: Centurion Prime)).[4]
In another instance, the Cylons program captured Colonial Warriors, including Boomer and Sheba, to be used as Centurions against the Fleet. This is described as the "latest improvement in Cylon technology," allowing them to think and fight like Colonials ((Comics: Masquerade)).[5]
