As a member of Galactica's command staff, Petty Officer 2nd Class Anastasia Dualla [du.ˈɑ.lə] manages the main communications board in CIC, and works closely with Adama, Tigh, and Gaeta in serving as Galactica's eyes and ears to her fighters and the Fleet. Her responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring fleet-wide communications, including all of Galactica's incoming and out-going communications
  • Ensuring shipboard communications are properly logged (Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down)
  • Relaying communications to all of Galactica's Vipers and Raptors during off-ship missions
  • Managing other minor CIC operations in Lt. Gaeta's absence.

Biography

Dualla's father thought that her enlistment in the Colonial Fleet was crazy, and he viewed the military as a joke. She signed up anyway because she wanted to believe in something. This rift with her father would continue throughout her service and the last time they spoke they got in a heated argument; two weeks later the Cylons attacked, and Dualla never got a chance to reconcile with him (Final Cut).

At the time of the Cylon attack she monitored fleet-wide communications and was one of the first to notice the unusually-high levels of shipboard malfunctions and failures aboard other battlestars (Mini-Series).

Since the Cylon attack, she has been responsible for co-ordinating fleet activities with Tactical Officer Felix Gaeta (e.g. Jumps). This responsibility led her to identify that the Olympic Carrier failed to Jump with the fleet during the period of the initial Cylon pursuit after their escape from Ragnar Anchorage (33).

Due to his attraction to Dualla, presidential aide Billy Keikeya "volunteers" her to join an off-ship mission to the Astral Queen (Bastille Day). Led by Captain Lee Adama, this misson was to attempt enlistment of prisoners being carried aboard the Queen in resupplying Galactica with water following an act of sabotage (Water). During the mission, the team is taken hostage by prisoners during a jail break lead by fellow Sagittaron and political agitator Tom Zarek.

Freed without personal harm during this siuation, Dualla goes on to return Billy Keikeya's affections, and they begin to date during off-duty periods (Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down).

She receives a minor concussion when Cylons board the ship (Valley of Darkness). Dualla aids in Laura Roslin's escape from Galactica by covering up the tracks of their secret communications coordinating their movements in the Fleet, and getting Colonel Tigh to sign permission to close off a causeway they use as an escape route. At this time, Dualla seems to "take notice" in Apollo (Resistance).

Dualla is assigned to giving D'anna Biers a tour around the battlestar as part of Bier's documentary of the ship (Final Cut). Lee Adama seems to find a certain attraction to Dualla during a sparring exercise with the petty officer.

She aids in constructing the experimental Blackbird's communications system (Flight of the Phoenix).

Notes

  • Her counterpart in the original series is Rigel.
  • Her first name was finally revealed in the episode, Final Cut. "Anastasia" means "resurrection" in Greek.
