The United States Air Force (USAF) is a military organization responsible for the air-based defense of the United States of America circa 1980 CE.

A division within the Air Force, Air Force Special Detachment One, is tasked with the investigation of unidentifiable phenomenon relating to, and regarding, "unidentified flying objects." As such, Troy and Dillon—and, later, the Super Scouts—often evade their agents while attempting to establish and integrate into Earth life (1980: "The Super Scouts", "The Night the Cylons Landed", "Spaceball").
