Xerik-12 is a planet in the Xerik system, orbiting a yellow giant star.[1] The planet is notable for its third moon, which served as the location of a Sky embassy established to maintain diplomatic relations with the Chitain.[2]

Sky Embassy

edit source

The Sky established an embassy and outpost on Xerik-12's third moon to facilitate diplomatic relations with the Chitain.[2] This diplomatic arrangement was peaceful and mutually beneficial for a period of time, with the Chitain sharing aspects of their technology and culture with the Sky.[3]

Valor, a Sky warrior, was in stationary orbit around the third moon when the Chitain launched their unprovoked attack on the embassy.[4] The betrayal and subsequent destruction of the embassy transformed the relationship between the Sky and Chitain from peaceful neighbors to enemies, ultimately leading to war between the two species.[5]

Colonial Fleet Arrival

edit source

The Colonial Fleet, led by Commander Apollo, set course for the Xerik system after acquiring an ancient holographic map of the Cyranus nebula.[6] Using coordinates for Kobol that Adama had discovered many yahren earlier, they plotted locations of planets across the quadrant where emigrants from Kobol had traveled and established colonies.[6]

The Xerik system was the nearest of these planets identified on the map, making it the fleet's immediate destination.[6] Omega reported to Apollo when scanners picked up their objective, and Apollo gave the order: "Set a course for the Xerik system."[6]

As the Colonial Fleet approached the system, advance reconnaissance pilots like Sheba and Starbuck traveled ahead of the battlestar on patrol.[7] Troy's trajectory placed Xerik's sun above him, and the distant sun's beauty was noted even as he focused on scanner data.[1]

The fleet hoped to find a colony on Xerik-5, and the approach to the Xerik system represented another potential reunion between separated branches of the human race.[7]
