Heike Brandstatter, C.S.A. is a Canadian casting director who served as casting director (alongside Coreen Mayrs) for the Re-imagined Series, The Plan, and Caprica.[1]

Biography

Brandstatter was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.[2] She is the daughter of Inge Brandstatter (1939-2008) and Helge Brandstatter, and has two siblings, Heimo and Elke.[2]

Casting Director

Brandstatter established herself as a prominent casting director in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she has worked extensively on productions filmed in the city. Her career has encompassed both major Hollywood productions and acclaimed independent films, including Juno (2007), Night at the Museum (2006), and The Edge of Seventeen (2016).[1]

Brandstatter has frequently collaborated with fellow casting director Coreen Mayrs, forming the casting partnership Mayrs/Brandstatter. Together they have cast numerous television series and feature films, including the X-Men film franchise, Juno (2007), Supernatural (2005-2020), Big Eyes (2014), and the Fantastic Four films.[1][3] Their work has also included Capote (2005), I, Robot (2004), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010), Tron: Legacy (2010), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), This Means War (2012), Smallville, Hellcats, and Falling Skies.[4][5][6] The casting team has earned a reputation for quality work, with actor Michael Hogan noting they "always cast great stuff."[7]

Brandstatter is a member of the Casting Society of America (C.S.A.).[8]

Battlestar Galactica Franchise

For the Re-imagined Series, Brandstatter and Mayrs served as casting directors for the Miniseries, as well as episodes "33," "Water," "Bastille Day," "Act of Contrition," "You Can't Go Home Again," "Litmus," "Flesh and Bone," "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down," and "The Hand of God."[9] They continued their work on The Plan and cast 18 episodes of the spin-off series Caprica.[1][10]

Brandstatter has received a Primetime Emmy Award and numerous other accolades for her casting work:[11]

  • 2007 - Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Casting for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special for Broken Trail (shared with Wendy Weidman, Coreen Mayrs, Jackie Lind, Barbara Fiorentino, and Rebecca Mangieri)[12][13]

Brandstatter has also received multiple Artios Award nominations from the Casting Society of America, including:[12]

  • 2021 - Artios Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Casting - Television Pilot and First Season - Comedy for Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (shared with Robert J. Ulrich, Eric Dawson, Carol Kritzer, Alex Newman, Coreen Mayrs, Errin Lally, and Annalese Tilling)
  • 2017 - Artios Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Casting - Television Pilot and First Season - Drama for UnREAL (shared with Barbara Fiorentino, Katrina Wandel George, and Coreen Mayrs)
  • 2017 - Artios Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Casting - Studio or Independent Feature - Comedy for The Edge of Seventeen (shared with Melissa Kostenbauder and Coreen Mayrs)
