Talk:Big Frakking New Caprican Devil Worm/Archive 1

Discussion page of Big Frakking New Caprican Devil Worm/Archive 1

Suitable or appropriate?[edit]

Silly pages base themselves on something that actually exists (New Caprican loco weed) or a parody of something in the BSG universe (Galactica 1980 (RDM)). We've seen nothing of New Caprica's indigneous wildlife, so this is more fan fiction than any other article. To me, unfortunately, it's also not sufficiently funny. --Spencerian 18:03, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

I chuckled at it, but it has nothing on the other pages. I think it would be funny with some work, so maybe don't delete. --BklynBruzer 19:07, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
I'm willing to give it more of a chance if it'd be funnier. It does have some stake in the canon, as it addresses the issue of the lack of indigenous life on New Caprica, other than what the Fleet brought with them. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 20:50, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
That's what I think, too. --BklynBruzer 21:16, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
Da consensus has it, then, although it really needs work to explain that point of no wildlife. --Spencerian 22:35, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, it really needs work, no doubt about that. --BklynBruzer 23:32, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
As said by Spence, I think, a few times, silly pages should be rare. I already think Adama Glare needs to be reworked, but it clearly relates to the show. This is totally out of the left field. So, I think instead of reworking this, we should focus on making Adama Glare better.
Besides, what the frak are you all on about the lack of wildlife? Quote from "LDYB, Part I": "Most of the planet's actually pretty barren. Plant and animal life located in a temperate belt around the equator." We don't really see that much of New Caprica to judge that there is no wild life at all around the city. Just because we don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. --Serenity 03:40, 13 July 2007 (CDT)
I've never gotten the whole silly-page hate/prejudice. Sure, we shouldn't reach Uncyclopedia levels, but if we don't have any fun around here, then we might get too serious for our own good. --BklynBruzer 07:10, 13 July 2007 (CDT)
I guess it's just a matter of taste. I like some of the other silly pages, like Toaster, Spot the Cylon or the beard articles. Mainly because they are somewhat subtle, whereas this one is too over the top. Also because it has no relation to the show itself. As said, there is no lack of New Caprican wildlife, except that we don't see it first hand. I also don't see the danger of becoming too serious. --Serenity 07:56, 13 July 2007 (CDT)
For the record, I'm not at all against silly pages: I created the first two pages, and one I made was eventually cut as it didn't make muster. They should be rare because (1) our purpose is to be a wiki on officially-licensed topics first, and (2) there is still a lot of work to do, like comics, books, novels, and even re-watches. I'm quite cool about not being too serious, but the wiki's mission is not to occupy our time debating non sequitur pages such as silly pages. Because they are technically irrelevant, silly pages, IMO, must be overwhelmingly funny and germane. This article is scraping the bottom of the barrel. --Spencerian 09:16, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

Silly pages should have pics. Otherwise you arnt sure to treat them serious or not. Good example. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 11:13, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

Even with pics, this page hardly relates to BSG. The same story would've fit into the Star Trek or even the Harry Potter universe. Also, as said earlier, I much prefer subtle writing to over-the-top writing. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:19, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
