A conflict started as a result of draconian command decisions by Admiral Helena Cain and military response by Commander William Adama to determine the freedom of Chief Galen Tyrol and Lieutenant Karl Agathon. It spans the last act of "Pegasus" and the beginning act of "Resurrection Ship, Part I".

The conflict begins when Colonel Saul Tigh contacts Commander William Adama, notifying Adama that Admiral Helena Cain has ordered the summary execution of Tyrol and Agathon over the death of Lieutenant Alistair Thorne. Upon hearing this news, and realizing that he had been lied to about a court martial regarding the incident, Adama orders a Raptor (with Viper escort) to board Peagsus to retrieve the men.

When Adama communicates to Cain his desire to be given Tyrol and Agathon, Cain launches Peagsus full Viper force and goes to Condition One. Galactica follows suit, launching Vipers led by Lieutenant Louanne Katraine and Brendan Constanza (Pegasus). As the Vipers approach, each side attempts to goad the other into opening fire first. Katraine repeatedly attempts to obtain permission to open fire on the incoming Vipers. During this, each side plays a deadly game of "chicken", attempting to force the other to go "weapons-free" and fire. This, under Colonial rules-of-engagement, would allow return fire. Given that Pegasus has only advanced Viper Mk. VII fighters to Galactica's Mark II fighters, an actual firefight would likely be a pitched battle, to Pegasus' advantage.

The fraças is interrupted by Kara Thrace piloting the Blackbird. After Lieutenant Lee Adama text messages Thrace over the wireless aboard a Pegasus Raptor, she begins acting in a manner consistant with a hostile Cylon Raider. The ruse succeeds as the DRADIS of both battlestars and their respective Viper squadrons reads the Blackbird as a Cylon. The two opposing groups join forces to engage the "real" enemy -- finding that the Blackbird isn't a Cylon, much to the relief of Thrace.

A truce ensues after Cain receives recon photos of the Cylon "Resurrection ship". Both commanders agree to bring their ships to Condition Two and meet on Colonial One to determine a course of action (Resurrection Ship, Part II).
