This page is a guideline of Battlestar Wiki.
This guideline is generally accepted among editors and is considered a standard (not policy) that all users should follow. However, it is not set in stone and should be treated with common sense and the occasional exception. When editing this page, please ensure that your revision reflects consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page.

The reasons we protect/lock the current episode guide close to and during airing of episode is for a number of reasons.

To help server speed by not slowing down the overall connections made to the server.
To make sure everyone has a chance to watch the episode. But most importantly...
Locking the episode allows you to gather your thoughts first before you rush to update the page with content that would otherwise have to be re-edited in the first place.

This however is not done on other articles unless that article is going to be a highly motivated article to update. This is not a race to who can edit first, but a place of content and precise information. It's better to have all the facts instead of leaving some out.

Pages that fall under this category are marked with the template {{air}} which will provided you with a link that shows you other articles we suggest you update, since those articles will most likely help shape the episode guide.
