Battlestar Wiki Chiefs and Senior Chiefs will often lock episode guide articles related to a currently airing episode for a period of time.

We protect/lock the current episode guide before, during and sometimes shortly after the last airing of an episode because:

  1. Locking articles help the wiki's server speed by not slowing down the overall connections made to the server. Battlestar Wiki is visited very often while an episode is airing or nearing air time. Contributors often make conflicting edits during airings, causing serious slowdowns (even downtime) of the entire wiki.
  2. Locking articles give everyone a chance to watch the episode before a wiki visit could spoil that.
  3. Most importantly, locking the episode allows you to gather your thoughts first before you rush to update the page with content that would otherwise have to be re-edited in the first place.

Locking is generally not done on related articles to the airing episode unless that article is known to contain significant changes to the character, event, or object (things like birth, death, change of status or destruction).

Remember that editing is not a race to see who can make the first edit, but to add accurate, precise information. It's better to have all the facts instead of leaving some out for the sake of "first post."

Pages that fall under this category are marked with the template {{air}} which will provided you with a link that shows you other articles we suggest you update, since those articles will most likely help shape the episode guide.

While waiting for an article to unlock to make edits, you can always visit the Battlestar Forum to chat about the episode as well, which might also help contributors confirm disputed information before entering it in an episode guide or related article.
