Just a few minor design improvements.

An old question about hits counter from Enabran
: When considering design changes, please keep in mind that not everyone reads the site using the default theme. I, for one, find the black background with bright text extraordinarily hard -- downright painful -- on the eyes, particularly in contrast with just about every other program and web site I use. I'm using the straight Monobook theme in my preferences. As a result, there are already some boxes that are all but unreadable unless I highlight the text in them.
Hi Joe,<br/>Enabran asked some time ago if it is possible to retrieve the hits counter. I tried to install a stable version of Extension:HitCounters on the French wiki. It seems to work. You'll need to run an <tt>maintenance/update.php</tt> after installing the extension with the following in the <tt>LocalSettings.php</tt> file
: (Ironically, I used to feel just the opposite, but the predominance of white-background websites and GUIs has shifted my preferences. It's easier to go with the flow than to find ways to change every single GUI system I use). --Uncle Mikey 10:20, 29 March 2006 (CST)
::Would it help on the boxes if we specified the white foreground? Granted, this would go against the rest of the text on the page, but I'd think that it'd make it look closer to how it is intended. However, you still have the blue links (unless that can be specified as well). --Steelviper 16:12, 29 March 2006 (CST)
:::Might help. It seems to me that there ought to be some way to make sure that template boxes &c integrate with the theme (using style-sheet names for things, &c), but I haven't messed enough with Mediawiki themes to know exactly how you'd do it portably.--Uncle Mikey 16:16, 29 March 2006 (CST)
::::You're absolutely right. That would be the correct way to do it. I too, however, lack that knowledge, and so I end up reaching for the quick/easy/ugly hack. Day has mentioned looking into such things in the past. --Steelviper 16:25, 29 March 2006 (CST)
:::::I'm pretty good with CSS. I'll look into this, but I don't want to commit to a project I won't have time to see through properly. --Peter Farago 20:52, 29 March 2006 (CST)

:::::: I would feel comfortable commiting to this project, time-wise. I feel confident enough in my CSS skills that I either know or know how to find out anything that would be needed to be done... I just need to remember to email Joe about which files do what and that kind of thing. Then... Do we put the CSS labels in spans and divs in the Wikicode, then? Or somehow mesh it into the XHTML generated by MediaWiki? --Day (talk) 01:34, 30 March 2006 (CST)
wfLoadExtension( 'HitCounters' );

::::::: I'm not too pro in the likes of CSS but perhaps in the meantime something like the redirect image could be made as a red arrow with a transparent png background then it would ok on both a white and a black background? --Mercifull 03:38, 30 March 2006 (CST)
It should keep the old values. As you wish, but I think there will be a happy, happy editor ;-) Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 13:57, 3 June 2020 (PDT)

I'm interested in assisting in regards to the summary pages of unproduced scripts of the 1978 series and its follow-up in 1980, but there are a few problems in this regard. First, it appears the wiki hasn't been updated in quite some time regarding these scripts (so I'm unsure if this is an active project or not). Second, the link to the Battlestar Pegasus page is dead. I have a few scripts printed out from the '78 series a few years ago, but I'd need access to the other scripts (especially The Beta Pirates, which I've wanted to read for many yahrens). Is this wiki still active, and can I assist? Ninth Lord of Kobol

Main Page Redesign (part 2) and other
Hi Joe,<br/>I hope you're well. I discovered the new skin you implanted for BW. Is that normal if everything is still in a white background even if you modified the css page to adapt? Thanks for your answer. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

I think we are ready to submit the current design at Battlestar Wiki:Main page for depolyment on the front page. IF you think it's a go, we just have to create the backend pages on the same "Battlestar Wiki:Main page" (subpages that would be sysop locked) so we can use those as for the places to edit the information and that is controled.) The only thing that we would have to work on as a community is the Featured Picture and Article process as of the data used right now is jsut a mockup.
: Howdy! Things are OK -- I hope things are good for you! For the background, it is adaptable, and there are three options if you click on the wheel/gear icon on the upper menu bar: Auto, Light and Dark. You might be on "light" or "auto," so if you click on Dark you should get the "darker" red theme.

The "News" front, even for site news has a new home at Battlestar Wiki:News so the "Current Events" link would need to be changed.
: I'm trying to figure out what to do for the "light" theme (so I've left it alone for now), and might try something that invokes the cream/light brown paperwork from the series.

We wouls still be workong on Battlestar Wiki:Main page to make the design use CSS so people can switch skinjs between the default and the monobook skins. That is the next step, but since most people use this skin, right now the hardcoded values are fine. (we do this at the Hanger Bay site, which is werid. jsut tried looking at the preferences, and it fails. (I'll work on this.)).
: I'm tweaking the theme as I go as well, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions, let me know. Cheers! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 23:38, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
:: Things are good for me as well, thanks! Regarding the skin, I chose the Dark theme, yet it is still white. Did I miss something in my parameters??
:: Small update, it seems that the dark and light themes are linked to the browser main color theme. I managed to change it in Edge and Firefox but I had to purge the cache. If I switch the browsers' theme back to light, it comes back to the light mode. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 20:54, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

With that in mind, I pretty much got he Calender ext. working and possiable could get cite.php to work on the Hanger bay so we know the setup. ::: I loved the old cream-coloured theme developed by Paul Gu. I don't think that theme would work in the current versions of Media Wiki, though. I can't see any images on the website.

We have a german episode list. It is installed under all german episodes. It is at present the only instrument we have for the fast episode navigation and thus the most important.
http://www.battlestarwiki.org/de/w/Vorlage:Episodenliste
Now it does not work any more. I do not know about the technical stuff. I am working here only as a translator. Could you please look for the german episode list and make it run?

*2)
Caprica fonts on German site
I began her as an IP. Now this is not possible any more. I am quite shure, that I never had began here as a translator, if I could not do this as an IP. At present we are only three active members in the german section. Would it not be better, to allow the IP editing, to get more people there. I have established a link to the german battlestar wiki in the german wikipedia battlestar article. I think, if an IP editing would be possible, we could get more people to work there.

Thank you for your attention.
Hi Joe,<br/>I hope you're fine. Is it possible please to add the two "Caprica" fonts on the German wiki root directory? :::A further question: I need the picture for this template. As far as I know, the upload of pics to german wikipedia shsll be disabled in near futur and it is strongly recommended, to uploded to commons. This also would it make easyer for other international Battlestarwiki users, to use the pic. Because you are the copyrighter, I would beg you to do so with the matching licence and then please tell me the link. Thank you -- Tirkon 22:16, 13 May 2006 (CDT)

::::Funny, the link to the template was just deleted from my german wikipedia user page. After that the template was deleted from official german wikipedia. Joe... I'm not sure when you did it, but the new favicon appears... garbled in my Firefox. I think it's because of the image scaling. I'm guessing that it's just the logo shrunk down way. I would like to ask your permission to use your likeness (from the image for your user page) in a project I'm working on. It's just a little banner I'm putting together for the Galactica BS fan art forum (not going to be on the front page of anything, just in a post or two (if the original ends up being quoted). I'm actually done with yours but posting it once is as good as publishing in these days of caching, so before I even posted a preview of it to photobucket I wanted to clear it with you. I just used your pic as is, with some minor changes in scaling, rotation, and shadow. I'm not 100% done with it, but it's looking pretty good. I'd rather not spoil the "surprise" of what exactly I'm doing until closer to unveiling, but I could promise a preview before it is "published" (aka posted into my fan art thread). Just drop a note here (or on my talk, or email, or whatever) letting me know. --Steelviper 14:49, 16 May 2006 (CDT)

An old question about hits counter from Enabran

Hi Joe,
Enabran asked some time ago if it is possible to retrieve the hits counter. I tried to install a stable version of Extension:HitCounters on the French wiki. It seems to work. You'll need to run an maintenance/update.php after installing the extension with the following in the LocalSettings.php file

wfLoadExtension( 'HitCounters' );

It should keep the old values. As you wish, but I think there will be a happy, happy editor ;-) Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 13:57, 3 June 2020 (PDT)

I will look into it! Thanks! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 11:20, 4 June 2020 (PDT)
I can see the hit counter back on the french wiki - can someone please add it to the german wiki? Enabran (talk) 14:23, 14 November 2020 (PST)
Installed. Unfortunately, it didn't retain the old numbers, and there was no way to recover those. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 16:21, 2 January 2021 (PST)
oh, thank you! Any number is better than no number ;-) Enabran (talk) 00:51, 3 January 2021 (PST)
There is one way: Hit the refresh button x times to gain x counters :-D Enabran (talk) 01:00, 3 January 2021 (PST)
Or by incrementing the number in page_counter.sql table in the DB directly -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:42, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hit counters are, in general, worthless data point generators anyway as they cannot be individually identified and categorized. They're very, well, "Web 1.0" and beyond obsolete. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:31, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

TOS/G80 unproduced scripts

Greetings fellow Colonial!

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ninth Lord of Kobol (talk • contribs).

Hello! Yes, the wiki is still somewhat active. I mostly maintain the English one at this point, with assistance of two other admins: User:Enabran of the German language Wiki and User:LIMAFOX76 of the French language Wiki.
As to the scripts, I have digitized PDF copies of the ones I've collected over the yahrens. I just need to re-upload them again (I'll upload them to the Wiki directly and update the links to the specific episodes). I'll start with "The Beta Pirates" and go from there. :-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:22, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Battlestar Wiki's new skin

Hi Joe,
I hope you're well. I discovered the new skin you implanted for BW. Is that normal if everything is still in a white background even if you modified the css page to adapt? Thanks for your answer. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Howdy! Things are OK -- I hope things are good for you! For the background, it is adaptable, and there are three options if you click on the wheel/gear icon on the upper menu bar: Auto, Light and Dark. You might be on "light" or "auto," so if you click on Dark you should get the "darker" red theme.
I'm trying to figure out what to do for the "light" theme (so I've left it alone for now), and might try something that invokes the cream/light brown paperwork from the series.
I'm tweaking the theme as I go as well, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions, let me know. Cheers! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 23:38, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Things are good for me as well, thanks! Regarding the skin, I chose the Dark theme, yet it is still white. Did I miss something in my parameters??
Small update, it seems that the dark and light themes are linked to the browser main color theme. I managed to change it in Edge and Firefox but I had to purge the cache. If I switch the browsers' theme back to light, it comes back to the light mode. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 20:54, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I loved the old cream-coloured theme developed by Paul Gu. I don't think that theme would work in the current versions of Media Wiki, though. But if you have the CSS of that light theme, maybe we can use the same colours in the current Citizen based theme? -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:28, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
For the "light" version, I was aiming towards the cream color, to mimic the paperwork in the series. We had something like that for the "Case Orange" update blog back in the day. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 03:45, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

SSL certificates

Hi Joe,
Hope you're fine. There is an issue with the SSL certificates on all Battlestar wikis and Buck Wiki. It says that they are not valid anymore and block the page's loading.
