| I wanted to ask you about something I noticed. The people that created the episode guides in other languages had not created their own Episode List in a seperate language. I saw that you wanted to eventually create seperate wikis in different languages so I was under the impression we should create the articles as seperate as possible. Should I be creating a list for the episode guides or should I keep them as connected to the main wiki as possible? --Zareck Rocks 18:15, 10 March 2006 (CST) | | : Howdy! | I done some research into the "Portal" problem. It seems there is a file, that has this: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:$wgExtraNamespaces where you need to add Portal. It's the same place you did "Battlestar_Wiki". Then you need to run a file under maintenance/namespaceDupes.php to make sure there are no dupes of any type. | :: I been working with [[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] trying to figure out the latest problem with portal sub-templates to auto-form and carry over the the design. From what I been talking with the MediaWiki group, the only way for the Portal's to work right is get them to say Portal" where article is. Now we could upgrade to 1.5.7 (fixes some secuirty areas) and then go from there. Now this page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Custom_namespaces gives me some new info which I never found before. The people in the IRC channel are a real pain. This may or may not fix the sub-portal template problem that we are having. --[[User:Shane|Shane]] 12:44, 16 March 2006 (CST)
| |
| ::: The problem is they are not becoming "Sub-Pages". When you create something like <nowiki>{{/box-header}}</nowiki> which is why the portal headers arn't working, is that it never became a sub-page. It became it's own page that is not connected to Portal:Characters but is rather Portal:Characters/box-header. Some new revelent information. | : Your second RfA didn't succeed this time. (4 for, 2 opposed; 67% were for your adminship -- however, according to [[BW:RFA]] the consensus should be 75%-80% or higher for a successful promotion.) I would recommend waiting a few months or so before proceeding again. Now, as for the issue I debated... I think that recuriting non-contributors to vote wasn't a great idea. Mainly for the fact that the voters didn't, in my mind, understand ''what'' adminship is. Apparently, there was the overall consensus amongst these voters that administrators were top-notch contributors to the Wiki and that people are entitled to adminship. This is not adminship. Adminship isn't for everyone -- and everyone doesn't need admin tools. If they did, then these administrator folks wouldn't need to exist. At all. We would just call them users with dead man switches. :-)
| |
| : Now, if I may kindly suggest a few things, which will only help you on your course to your (eventual) succession to administrator:
| |
| :# I would recommend keeping an archive of ''all'' your discussions on your talk page. You may link to the histories or create subpages on your user page to archive discussions.
| |

| :A)I would like to argue against the standard of 80% maximum, it is restrictively high. Non-editors is a non-issue; I agree with you there. No, I think I'll commence my next RfA as soon as you close down my current one. | Have you ever considered contacting Ron Moore somehow and offering the wiki as a resource for him and his writers? I think it would be a great idea—have the obsessive fans already take care of the continuity checking and documenting everything that happens in every episode, so I imagine it would be a great resource for the writers to quickly look stuff up and keep track of continuity issues. Hi Joe,
Enabran asked some time ago if it is possible to retrieve the hits counter. I tried to install a stable version of Extension:HitCounters on the French wiki. It seems to work. You'll need to run an maintenance/update.php after installing the extension with the following in the LocalSettings.php file
wfLoadExtension( 'HitCounters' );
It should keep the old values. As you wish, but I think there will be a happy, happy editor ;-) Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 13:57, 3 June 2020 (PDT)
- I will look into it! Thanks! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 11:20, 4 June 2020 (PDT)
- I can see the hit counter back on the french wiki - can someone please add it to the german wiki? Enabran (talk) 14:23, 14 November 2020 (PST)
- Installed. Unfortunately, it didn't retain the old numbers, and there was no way to recover those. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 16:21, 2 January 2021 (PST)
- oh, thank you! Any number is better than no number ;-) Enabran (talk) 00:51, 3 January 2021 (PST)
- There is one way: Hit the refresh button x times to gain x counters :-D Enabran (talk) 01:00, 3 January 2021 (PST)
- Or by incrementing the number in page_counter.sql table in the DB directly -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:42, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
- Hit counters are, in general, worthless data point generators anyway as they cannot be individually identified and categorized. They're very, well, "Web 1.0" and beyond obsolete. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:31, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Greetings fellow Colonial!
I'm interested in assisting in regards to the summary pages of unproduced scripts of the 1978 series and its follow-up in 1980, but there are a few problems in this regard. First, it appears the wiki hasn't been updated in quite some time regarding these scripts (so I'm unsure if this is an active project or not). Second, the link to the Battlestar Pegasus page is dead. I have a few scripts printed out from the '78 series a few years ago, but I'd need access to the other scripts (especially The Beta Pirates, which I've wanted to read for many yahrens). Is this wiki still active, and can I assist? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ninth Lord of Kobol (talk • contribs).
- Hello! Yes, the wiki is still somewhat active. I mostly maintain the English one at this point, with assistance of two other admins: User:Enabran of the German language Wiki and User:LIMAFOX76 of the French language Wiki.
- As to the scripts, I have digitized PDF copies of the ones I've collected over the yahrens. I just need to re-upload them again (I'll upload them to the Wiki directly and update the links to the specific episodes). I'll start with "The Beta Pirates" and go from there. :-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:22, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi Joe,
I hope you're well. I discovered the new skin you implanted for BW. Is that normal if everything is still in a white background even if you modified the css page to adapt? Thanks for your answer. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
- Howdy! Things are OK -- I hope things are good for you! For the background, it is adaptable, and there are three options if you click on the wheel/gear icon on the upper menu bar: Auto, Light and Dark. You might be on "light" or "auto," so if you click on Dark you should get the "darker" red theme.
- I'm trying to figure out what to do for the "light" theme (so I've left it alone for now), and might try something that invokes the cream/light brown paperwork from the series.
- I'm tweaking the theme as I go as well, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions, let me know. Cheers! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 23:38, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
- Things are good for me as well, thanks! Regarding the skin, I chose the Dark theme, yet it is still white. Did I miss something in my parameters??
- Small update, it seems that the dark and light themes are linked to the browser main color theme. I managed to change it in Edge and Firefox but I had to purge the cache. If I switch the browsers' theme back to light, it comes back to the light mode. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 20:54, 21 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
- I loved the old cream-coloured theme developed by Paul Gu. I don't think that theme would work in the current versions of Media Wiki, though. But if you have the CSS of that light theme, maybe we can use the same colours in the current Citizen based theme? -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:28, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
- For the "light" version, I was aiming towards the cream color, to mimic the paperwork in the series. We had something like that for the "Case Orange" update blog back in the day. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 03:45, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Joe,
Hope you're fine. There is an issue with the SSL certificates on all Battlestar wikis and Buck Wiki. It says that they are not valid anymore and block the page's loading. Is it possible to update the certificates so no warning message appears ? Thank you very much. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 10:23, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
- This is remedied now. Thank you! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:58, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Joe,
The SSL certificates have expired again, preventing images from loading on all pages. Sorry to bring bad news as a greeting! I really love this site, so, thank you for creating and maintaining it. I hope you are doing well! --Allatariel (talk) 15:48, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joe,
I hope you're fine. Is it possible please to add the two "Caprica" fonts on the German wiki root directory? It is already configured to have them, so it will appears as soon you import them. Thanks a lot! Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 20:52, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

WiiFrakr had some fantastic and hilarious content back in the day. Sadly this was lost in time. Is there a way to restore those pages back if a backup is available? Maybe instead of a separate sub-wiki, those pages can live under a namespace on the English Wiki.
Similarly, the other language wikis which existed are lost. Is it possible to restore them too? -- CylonU87 I don't feel like a copy. 20:39, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
- I believe a backup is available, but I haven't gotten to it, as I haven't prioritized it. As to the other language wikis, I don't believe there was much in the way of content, beyond the German and French versions that were restored. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 03:42, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
