Improved version
I've created an improved version of this template here. A sandbox for testing this template is here, where you are free to add tests (but please do not remove existing ones).
The changes I made are:
- Replaced
rdm=Yand friends withuniverse=RDM. - Added the universe2 parameter which allows for a second universe to be displayed
- Rephrased the contents of the infobox
- Added the cont parameter that displays the name of the continuity in the infobox.
- Use lcont for an alternate link target

What do the others think? If it turns out most people favor the new design, you can implement it by copying the full contents of User:Catrope/Template:Separate continuity to Template:Separate continuity (I'll be away for three weeks starting tomorrow, so I'll likely be unable).
