Pods

Pods are Cylon military outposts throughout the Cyranus galaxy complete with squadrons of Raiders.

Pods are typically well hidden and operate under stealth, appearing deserted to the unsuspecting. However, pods act like crawlons in its web: upon "some hapless creature flying into its orbit", the pods become operational and the Raiders can overwhelm their victims by sheer surprise.

A Viper patrol consisting of Boomer and Jolly land on an asteroid in the Otarsis Quadrant, only to discover at least one such pod embedded in the rock face of a mountain.

Upon discovery, Jolly inquires whether or not they should find out how many pods are on the asteroid, to which Boomer replies that it wouldn't matter since it only takes one pod to send a message back to the Cylon capitol with the Fleet's location. This suggests that there can be more than one pod on a celestial body (Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I).
