Color scheme[edit]
Joe,
First of all, kudos on starting the wiki! This will be an excellent resource and community, and I'm ecstatic to see it catch on so quickly. The color scheme, while definitely striking, can be a little hard on the eyes for some people, myself included. Changing the skin under preferences helps with the white-on-black text, but all the boilerplate tables retain their FG and BG colors (I guess they're controlled by the individual templates, not by CSS). Is there any way around this problem? I don't know enough about Wiki protocol to determine whether templates can also be driven by CSS. If not, perhaps a discussion should be started about modifying the color palette altogether. I personally would love to see an option for a more Colonial-Fleet-themed palette, with shades of gunmetal gray.
Thanks! -- Mayosolo 17:43, 18 January 2006 (EST)
- I bet they can be CSS-ified. Rather than giving them colors in the template directly, give them classes or ids and let the CSS file sort out what colors those mean. Now, I'm not certain that would work, since I've never worked with the MediaWIki software, but I get the impression that it's fairly robust with regard to things like this. --Day 18:02, 18 January 2006 (EST)
- I can edit the templates to use CSS classes, and edit the stylesheet appropriately. If anyone can come up with alternate color schemes, please bring them to my attention and I'll see what I can whip up. -- Joe Beaudoin 22:55, 18 January 2006 (EST)
- Awesome! Thanks, Joe. I can start developing the gray idea... as soon as I relearn CSS. Boy, it's been awhile. -- Mayosolo 00:57, 19 January 2006 (EST)
- I may be wrong, but the way I read that, Joe wants colors (like #777777 for a grey, though a bland one) from us (though I like and use the black and red scheme). I think he can handle the CSSing. I could be misunderstanding him, though. If you want someone to do some grunt-work CSSing, Joe, lemme know. I know a thing or two about it. --Day 05:37, 19 January 2006 (EST)
Name Change[edit]
Joe, is it possible for you to change my username? Thanks --BMS 13:32, 28 January 2006 (EST)
- Yes, it should be a relatively painless manner. What do you wish your user name changed to? -- Joe Beaudoin 21:39, 28 January 2006 (EST)
- "Kraetos" would be great. Thanks! --BMS 23:24, 28 January 2006 (EST)
- I would also like my name changed (as I mentioned on my talk page), to "The Merovingian" ("the" is required). If you can't have two words, use "The_Merovingian". --Ricimer 21:42, 28 January 2006 (EST)
CSS[edit]
SV and I got to talking about CSSing as it applies to skins here. I was wondering, since I know a thing or two (maybe three, but no more) about CSS, how you felt about handing out the .css files to be modified so we could use classes and ids rather than explicit colors for the various templates and boxes we've got around. If you'd rather do this yourself, that's fine, too. I just thought I'd offer/ask. --Day 15:38, 1 February 2006 (EST)
- I'd have no problem in giving out the CSS sheets. Just mail me with the addresses you want the CSS files sent to and I'll send them out. :-) -- Joe Beaudoin 19:15, 1 February 2006 (EST)
Cite extensions[edit]
Joe, I'm not sure if you've seen the cite extension, but this would make it much easier to document our sources. --Peter Farago 00:54, 2 February 2006 (EST)
- I've been moseying around the extensions on the MediaWiki & Meta sites and happened upon this one as well; I even tried it on a test wiki I loaded on the server a few days ago. Unfortunately, it only works on the current unstable version of 1.6. (We use the 1.5 series, and I am not comfortable with loading anything that is in alpha stages at this time.) The extension does look cool, however, and would make our lives a lot easier, and I hope that once 1.6 hits stable we can go ahead an implement it on this wiki. -- Joe Beaudoin 09:15, 2 February 2006 (EST)
- Are you certain? en.wikipedia.org seems to have the extension enabled. --Peter Farago 10:29, 2 February 2006 (EST)
- Wikipedia is running 1.6alpha of Mediawiki, while we're on 1.5.5 over here. --Steelviper 10:35, 2 February 2006 (EST)
- All Wikimedia projects tend to run the experimental versions of the MediaWiki software. I really don't see the logic of it, but... -- Joe Beaudoin 11:30, 2 February 2006 (EST)
- That's a neat feature. I'm patient enough to wait for someone else to get the bugs out, though. It will be needed here as the new show becomes not-so-new and mistakes crop up. --Spencerian 01:26, 3 February 2006 (EST)
Smaller Image[edit]
Joe, I've uploaded a smaller version of he BSG wiki image, so you can use it on the project pages. Most web browsers horribly pixelate images when scaled (see a project page for an example), using this smaller version will prevent that. The file is located at Image:BSG-WIKI-SM.png. Name Change (Part deux)[edit]
Joe, I hate to be a bother, but I am politely reminding you of my request for a name change. If there is a problem, could you let me know? Thanks! --BMS 22:12, 7 February 2006 (EST)
Slander[edit]
Joe, I tried to use the "e-mail this user" in the toolbox but it said I need to be logged in with a valid e-mail address in my preferences, which I do so I don't know why I couldn't email you. So I'll have to ask you this here. Feel free to delete this after you read it.
I would hope that the Battlestar Wiki strives to be free of slander so I am requesting you remove the parts of Merv's posting in this thread:
http://www.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Sources_talk:Correspondence_with_Jim_Iaccino
Where he claims that I called Jim's workplace ( I did not and he admits he was "voicing it as a possibility as I have my suspicions. It's actually probably nothing.")
Where he claims I PM'd him an abusive message (I have never PM'd him.)
Where he claims I expressed a desire to "anally rape" him (I certainly have never expressed such a desire.)
Where he claims I sent YOU a threatening e-mail (I'm sure you realise this is false.)
These claims are clearly slander and have no place on your website. The fact that he made up a fictitious PM ((the PM "yeah I am Ribzy you frakhead and I'm going to crucify you!", was a dead giveaway...) Should tell you the depths he will sink to support his slander.
Thank you, take care and control.
