A chief enforcer of the prison planetoid of Proteus, Croad can be described as half-drunken and thickheaded -- a description fitting most of the prisoners and the enforcers themselves. Evidently he can fly, albeit laxly, old sixth-millenium starfighter craft. He used such a craft to pursue Robber, who was flying valuable crates of ambrosa to Aeries.
Starbuck, who managed to repair the ship sufficiently for flight, was later caught by Croad and given the name "Bootlegger 137". The designation didn't fit well with Starbuck, enough so that he discovered that the locks on the cell doors had been in a state of disrepair. This forced Croad to face the truth. The prisoners began a revolt once they found out that they were helping only the enforcers as they slaved over production of long-fermenting ambrosa.
Croad accused Starbuck of being a Cylon spy, however this was later to be rebuked by the landing of Apollo, Boomer and Robber. He survived the attack from three Cylon raiders, and apparently still continues living on Proteus. (The Long Patrol)
