Proteus is a Cylonic aetherprison ship.
Crown Prince Apollo is brought before Imperious Leader Baltar while Proteus orbits Helia, and is given his sentence of hard labor prior to Baltar's plan to use Apollo's mind as the basis of a new iteration of Cylonic Knight.
While aboard Proteus, Apollo encounters two former Warriors of the Colonial Empire, Boomer and Jolly (Steampunk Battlestar Galactica 1880 1).
